  • Purchased RCI Points have several questions???

    Hi all;

    I finally pulled the plug and after owning 12 fixed weeks of timeshare with resort affiliation in RCI and II I purchased an RCI points package that will give me 105,000 points per year. Here is my problem in addition to the 105,000 points that I will receive for 2010 I had to pay the maintenance fee for 2009 and will receive 105,000 points and about 38,000 ( "free") leftover points from 2008 included with my purchase.

    So what's the problem? I'm not sure how this works since I haven't closed yet and my account probably will not be set up with RCI for about two more months. So here are my questions since I am used to weeks were you have a 3 year window to usage ( 1 year prior to your week and two years after ) I think that with points I only have usage for the year of the points being deposited which can be carried over to the next year and then you loose it? Is this correct???

    I am already booked for most of 2010 with my fixed weeks exchanges and would be using these points in 2011.

    1) Is there any way I can use the "free" 38,000 points from 2008

    2) Do I get to use the 2009, 105,000 points in 2011 since they will not be deposited until closing in 2010 or did the clock start ticking with the date the prior owner received their 2009 points which I paid for by paying 2009 maintenance fee?

    3) 2010 points can be used in 2010 plus carried over to 2011. Is there any way it can be carried over to 2012?

    I would appreciate as much help as possible since I didn't want to pay the 2009 maintenance fee but was told that was part of the deal. If I can't use it can I rent out the points in 2010 that I will not be using?

    You can't rent RCI points. You can 'rent' them FROM RCI but you can't rent them TO someone else.

    Here is what it says in the Terms and Conditions:

    10. SAVING and EXTENDING RCI POINTS.
    a. The Member may choose to save allocated RCI Points from the current Use Year into the next Use Year. RCI Points that have been previously saved cannot be saved into a subsequent Use Year. Rented RCI Points cannot be saved into another Use Year.
    If RCI Points are saved, used for a Reservation and such Reservation is then cancelled, the saved RCI Points shall remain in the Use Year into which they were saved.
    b. Eligible RCI Points will be automatically saved and the Member will be charged a transaction fee if the Member has not used any of its points by the end of a Use Year.
    RCI Points that have been saved must be used in the Use Year into which they were saved. If RCI Points are not used in the Use Year to which they have been saved, they will expire unless the Member chooses to extend previously saved but expiring Points for one (1) additional Use Year. A transaction fee shall apply.

    So, if you use any of your points in a given use year, the rest automatically get saved for use in the next year. If you don't use any, you can save them but there is a $26 fee. After two use years, you can pay $39 to extend up to 14k for another year or $99 for more than 14K.

    You can only book a standard points reservation within a rolling 10 month interval but you still have access to weeks deposits in the same timeframes as your weeks account, deposits with check-in dates up to two years from today.
