I have 2 words to describe why RCI points are so good:

Yes they are very nice and I like the location on Palm beach better than the Divi Golf resort but when I saw them available 10 months before my check in I was still playing with the account to see if I could get something better.

The villas by Divi Phoenix also would have cost me a lot more points because all I saw were 1BR's and I need to save some of my points for a family vacation next April during spring break. By the time I made up my mind all that was available was divi Village ( old section) and divi golf. We also have very good friends who own at Costa Linda and we will probably be spending most of our time there. Since Costa Linda is walking distance from Divi this should work out really well.

Amen to that except if you own your points in Orlando like I do.

          Congrats Larry,
Sounds like you are getting a good grasp of RCI points.
I get 3 weeks out of my little 25,000 points package each year.
I see you are on your way too.

I'm just not patient enough. I see someplace I want to go, and I spend points on it long in advance, rather than waiting until 90 days out and just seeing what is there.

I usually use the short-term 9k bookings for friends and family (I'll see a unit, book it, blast out e-mail and see who wants it; if no one, I release it).

I've got to spend 20k points by September before they expire. What to do, what to do...

Just can't bring myself to blow 3 years points on one vacation. I know I could do it but it pains me to do it. I'd rather max it out and go see the mouse or spend my summer on the beach. It's so easy to do down here in FL that I'm spoiled already.

Steve, What a problem to have, 20K points to spend. I feel for you.

Same here I can't see waiting for 90 prior to check in to try and get some last minute stuff since I already have a week in II that I always trade during flexexchange plus I have over 100,000 points per year and started off with 2009 and 2010 points of over 200,000 points. I needed to use 48,000 prior to February 2011 so I took the two weeks in Aruba for January and booked studio units since it will only be me and my wife.

I will need about 150,000 points or more for a family vacation in April 2011 so will be saving enough points for that before booking anything else. Since that week will be spring break when schools are closed in NY I don't think waiting for 90 days prior to check in will work.

Do you have an RCI weeks account through bluegreen, or wyndham or another timeshare group that includes an RCI weeks account with your membership.

If you do, then book Disney using your points. Even if your resort associated with your points account is in Orlando, you will still be able to make the reservation online. RCI will then phone a short time afterward and tell you that your confirmation has been flagged because you own in Orlando. Then tell them that you have another RCI account, and they should be able to switch the confirmation to the other account.

Yes, I've got a weeks account with Wyndham. I haven't called to see if it will pull DVC yet so thanks for the advice. I also see DVC with my HGVC pretty liberally if I so desire, but luckily I've got enough DVC points since I go off season usually and hopefully I'll be able to get Bonnet Creek with my wyn deposits to RCI. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one.

I wouldn't want to risk getting stuck with someplace I don't want (Wastegate) after I get my heart set on DVC by using my RCI points knowing full well they're gonna flag me. I have to get myself in a different frame of mind to stay off property.
