  • Can RCI Points increase

If I purchased points at a resort with a Hospitality rating and the resort is later upgraded to a Silver rating, do the number of points that I own increase? I was told they would have more trading power, but I didn't think points had trading power, i.e. points are points.

Yes, but it doesn't happen very often. More points means more trading power, that's the only thing I can think of regarding that last part.

One of my South African weeks went to Silver Crown. When I deposited it in Points For Deposit, it received the higher amount.

Allotments can increase and can also decrease from year to year.

Other than rating changes, the demand factor for the underlying week can also change from time to time. When RCI reviews their demand reports for the prior year, they can make adjustments to the point allotment values. This does not necessarily mean that a week changes from the red season for example, but rather that the "shade" of red for that particular week changes.

In a few rare cases where the developer changed how weeks were sold, the week reserved by an owner can also impact the points received upon deposit. The rci point valuation is simply a method by RCI of estimating the exchange potential for an ownership.

It would be interesting to hear how much this actually happens, although it appears to be quite rare, one of the big defects of points. Can anyone cite any specific examples of points numbers changing in either direction for a specific resort?

If anyone has a good rci contact, in the past they distributed a memo notifying reps of award designation changes. It would be fairly simple for them to perform an email search to pull up these memos, and then you'd just have to look for the rci pts affiliates on the list..
