  • RCI Points resort that doesn't want to be a points resort any longer

Has it ever happened that a RCI Points resort decides it doesn't want to be in points anymore? What would happen to the people who converted their weeks into points? Would they loose their points and go back to their original week ownership?

We don't belong to Points system with RCI, but our resort Gurney's was recently "convinced" to offer points conversions, a huge ripoff conversion price! It is really outrageous when RCI says that their fee is only $199 to convert, but the resort offers the conversion at $2000 plus.

    But I digress,
as for the fact that some resorts do say bye to the Points idea, once they are Points, I believe they are bound to allow their owners to continue to use the resort with points membership "rules" and procedures.

An owner is really then still IN RCI points, but the resort is no longer offering the points as a conversion.

However, the RCI directory will still list the resort as an RCI Points resort, because they want the owners who want to use points to have that option.

The resort will consider itself RCI weeks resort once again, but truly, it must offer inventory to RCI for RCI points users...even if it is just by full weeks...that is how I have come to understand the reversion process.

I hope that I have answered this clearly...but I know someone who does own points will add to this thread to make it clearer.
Life is short, live it with this awareness.

Even our humble and modest resort has been convinced to convert to RCI Points. The local real estate agent that handles resales is handling it.

There are quite a few Australian resorts that have bailed out of RCI Points, and I believe that those owners who had joined Points were allowed to continue.

I own a US based RCI point resort that stopped selling RCI Points last year. The resort only sells weeks now, but they continue to be labelled an RCI Points resort and the affiliation agreement continues. Once a resort converts, I don't think it can practically go back.

The previous posters are correct. As long as one person at the resort continues to want to stay in Points, the resort must honour that and they continue to be labeled a Points resort.

Here's Madge's explanation in this thread.
