timeshare points to weeks and vice versa

Hello all,

I'm a newbie on this Timeshare forum and ownership. I don't exactly know where to post this question so I will post it here and on timeshare weeks thread. My main question is... I recently deposited my weeks but haven't heard anything from Timeshare that my exchange is successful. So... Is it possible to convert my Timeshare weeks to Timeshare points? I'm under the impression that points can be used to book hotels affiliated with Timeshare. If this is possible how can I do it?

Who did your resort deposit your weeks with, RCI, Interval etc? or does it have it's own group exchange system?
Typically any resort that you want to change a Weeks membership to a Points membership wants an internal exchange fee. My resort in Vegas wanted $8,000, all they got was my middle finger!!

In most cases, no. If you own a week, you can use or deposit a week. If you own points, then you can use points. This all depends upon what you own.

I'm under the impression that points can be used to book hotels affiliated with Timeshare. If this is possible how can I do it?

Here again, what and where do you own. If you own a developer purchased Westin/ Marriott you may have the ability to use points to stay in one of their hotels, not normally a good use.

Thank you so much Aliikai2 for your reply. To answer your question.... I own Timeshare weeks. My parent resort is in Las Vegas (Grandview). I sort of vaguely remembered that when my sales representative was enticing me to buy this Timeshare, she mentioned that I could use my weeks to stay at The Wynn or Encore. Since I am planning a trip to Australia and I'm having a little difficulty finding a resort in Melbourne or Sydney. I thought maybe I can switch the weeks to points and I may have a better luck finding an accommodation there.

I am also in the Grandview and a weeks owner, as I replied earlier they tried to get me to convert to Points at a cost of $8,000+. That was for my 2 bedroom lockout and I believe the amount of RCI transferrable points would have been about 86,000, 43,000 if you own a 1 bedroom. They may have changed the costs to change now, as that was put to me 2 years ago.

I can't speak specifically to Grandview, but my experience is that TS salespeople offer a lot of different prices and packages to people, depending on how desperate they are and the market and who knows what. My guess is that if they particularly want your week in the points system they'll charge you less to change it over than they would someone who has an less desirable week.

I am a Points member at another resort and I argued the Points and ended up getting double what the original offer was, for no extra cost. We were getting up to leave the table and the Sales rep just said he would double the Points, so we ended up buying.

As far as the Grandview goes, I believe if they want to convert everyone to Points, there should be a moral obligation to change them for nothing. Afterall if you by into their points program today it will cost no more than what i paid for my Weeks package 5 years ago, so why the hell should I have to fork out another $8,000.
And before someone points it out, I know there are very few "morals" when it comes to Timeshare selling.

It makes no sense to convert. You should not pay again for the same timeshare when RCI points are much cheaper on the resale market. You can buy 91.8K RCI points for $500 plus closing costs if you look in the ts4ms For Sale listings. Why pay 4K or 8K?

We have the 2 1 bedroom unit for NYE week. I think I'll take advice from another thread about holding out until the Weeks revamp is done before I do anything...man the whole TS idea gets much more depressing once you remember you have maintenance fees

Don't worry it's not as depressing as some people on this site would have you believe. I've only been in it for 5 years but have had some wonderfull vacations and I'm heading to Aruba on Saturday for 2 weeks.
I do think, from what I read, that in the earlier days people had a lot less hassles on exchanges and there were no Points so all banked weeks went into the Pool. Now RCI have the Points and also take some of the better weeks and sell them off as Extra vacations, although they try to deny this. This means when people bank they get less exchange availability.
Personally I've had zero problems with RCI, and I've always found them very helpfull.

If you want to go to Australia, the exchange company to be dealing with is not RCI but DAE. They have free membership and a lower exchange fee. They also have lots of Australia inventory. They will almost certainly take your resort as an exchange. Maybe you can get your deposit back from RCI or maybe you can give them a future week.
