  • just got to my home resort and they want me to switch to points?

I booked my flex time eoy 2 bed week(Mystic Dunes FL).
..got here and as always they are pitching something...but this time it's points and they are being bought out by DRI....they just don't know if it will be this month or the end of this week...I did not even know the resort was in trouble ,bought in 06 ...have not even finshed paying it off....sales guy says we will get more value if we switch to points...have presentation on Tuesday.
I guess my ? is this, why should I put out more $$...will DRI honor the EOY Flex week that I currently have and love???

    any thoughts will be helpful,

    Don't do it.
Why throw good money after bad.

If you want points you can buy a resale somewhere else on ebay that isn't in bankruptcy and possibly facing assessments. Possibly even for $1.

You should ask questions in the DRI forum once you get the details of what they are offering but if they want you to pay again I would walk away...wait, run away.

IF you already own what you like & use (a week at Mystic Dunes) DON'T let them talk you into giving up your deed (and thus voting rights) for DRI Points. IF you want to be a DRI Club Member (as I ma & like it) see if they will do a deal that lets you keep your deeded ownership but trun it over to DRI each year for Club Points (Should be around $2999). If so, and you want to use he DRI locations, that can be a good deal. But I would never give up my deed. If that is al they offer, or if you don't care about using other resorts in the DRI system, then walk away from the "deal". You won't regret that.

Mystic Dunes has been in trouble for awhile. Changing owners does not immediately fix that. People can rent a night or a week there on Hotwire, for less than annual fee-type prices.

As far as pushing points, that is also old news, as it is a trick the industry uses to get more money from a captive audience, for them to do the same thing they already are, only differently.

Even those who never wanted points and fought it for years got it dumped on us last November.

          Good luck.

Question everything? I own Diamond points and love the flexibility of when and where I go. Do not get high pressured into a choice you do not want. Ask how many points you would get. Also ask to see a points chart so you can see if the offer is worth it. If you say no you will still have what you own. Also expect maintenance fee increases soon.

              Depends on What You Want

I have DRI and have enjoyed the flexibility as well. However, the MF's are high. However, you will have more flexibility.

If you really enjoy going to Mystic Dunes each year and have no desire to spend your week anywhere else, then there is no need to purchase points. However, if you believe that you will want to exchange and maybe spend more than a week or less than a week somewhere else, then you may wish to consider the points program.

You really need a fair amount of points to enjoy DRI every year if you use that system. So if you down have up and around 10,000 points, you will be very limited unless a studio is what you're looking for. Now you can save points for a year to combine them with another year. That works. However, you already own EOY so you could be taking vacations every 4 years trying to save enough points.

              Food for thought.

First, I'd recommend listening to the offer. You can make decisions after you hear what DRI puts on the table. Unlike other companies, the offer may not be all that bad and could increase your flexability enough that it's attractive.

We owned two DRI weeks before DRI purchased Sunterra out of bankruptcy. The knee jerk reaction is to keep things as they are. However, once l listened to the proposition, took a look at how we were using our owned weeks (we were exchaning them rather than using them for personal usage), it was obvious that the option of joining THE Club would get better value of our ownership for us. Because we own 6 EY and 1 EOY usage timeshares, buying additional points made no sense for us. Even though there are benefits as far as reserving units, joining the trust really didn't make a lot of sense for us either.

DRI will continue to honor your original contract, just like you're using it now. However, as they will explain to you, there are now options available that you didn't have before. Depending on how you use your timeshare now and how you think you might use your timeshare in the future, the options available may be attractive.

As for buying points on the resale market, there are limitations. DRI essentially makes it so that you must buy something from the developer in order to get full membership and flexability out of either resale weeks or resale trust points. I am not 100% certain but, I have read posts that indicate that resale trust points are only good for that particular grouping of resorts in that trust and nothing else. Fact of fiction I'm not 100% certain but, it's something I'd be darn certain of before buying resale.

Now, if by some chance they're pitching RCI points, I'd hold out and compare that offer to whatever DRI offers once the transistion is complete. IMHO, internal exchange programs offer the best deal for timeshare owners at this time. We now belong to Marriott's new program, HGVC's program and DRI's internal exchange program.

If anyone can rent at Mystic Dunes for less than a maintenance fee, why would paying even more to own there be a good thing?

I can't stress enough ask questions at the presentation. Do not agree to the first offer there is always another less expensive offer available. Diamond has other resorts in the area ask to see them. They are Cypress Pointe, Grand Beach, and Polynesion Isles. As I stated before Diamonds points work well for me, but I travel off season quite often so 10000 points gets me three weeks a year. If you own any other timeshares ask about the club select. Go to diamond resorts website and read what is publicly available. The sales pitch will probably be high pressure. BE PREPARED!
