Need to use up DRI 2011 points

I have 3600 points for Diamond International that need to be used up in 2011. I'm trying to see if anyone is interested in buying the points (or having be reserve a room). What's the best way to do this?

At this point you really only have two options. One is to book something through DRI (either the Club or Club Select) for travel in 2011. The second is to use the points to book a reservation through II before the points expire at the end of 2011. The II booking alternative is the only option that will allow you to use the points for travel outside of 2011.

I had the identical situation a couple of months ago. I ended up booking an exchange through II for a resort about 20 miles away from a location where I have a conference occurring in 2012. Not ideal, but it was my only realistic option to use the points before they expired and I lost them entirely.

ACTUALLY, there is a deadline for booking FUTURE years I.I. reservations with current year points, it is 31Oct each year.

Yep, that's my dilemma. I did not realize this until I was trying to do exactly that

I wasn't aware of the Oct 31 deadline. Thanks for adding that comment, and I"ll file that away for future reference.

Same applies with Wyndham points and RCI

We are in that boat with Wyndham and RCI.

Williamsburg is just up the road... (we enjoy our temporary apartment more). Our own bed and recliners are comfortable.

I can roll points into RCI bank (again). Or, someone could holler-up and I could maybe find them something to book, last Minute.

Trying to use end-of-year surplus points to pay maintenance fees isn't an option because the decision to use points to pay fees has to be made early in the year.

Home Resort Advantage and Home Collection Advantage are only available with current year points. That means that if you want to combine points over multiple years to get a unit at your home resort that requires more points than your current annual allotment, you can't book that reservation until 10 months before check-in, when it becomes available as general Club inventory.

Of course that means that if you are trying to combine points to book an extremely popular week at your home resort, you probably won't succeed since that inventory will be completely taken by other owners during the home resort advantage period.
