  • Point rental solicitation for major events

I have been contacted on two occasions by representatives who know my name, how many points I have and when they are expiring. Each told me they were coordinating points to accommodate an event at a resort such as a PGA tournament. They asked if I would like to rent two weeks of points--expiring within 6 months. If I would do this I would be compensated an amount less their commission. The amount I would receive was large enough it was tempting.

I contacted VI and they have no relationship with someone doing something like this. They equated my experience to a reseller and cautioned me against scams.

Has anyone had this type of experience? What do you know about point rental for major events?

well.... usually if there's a 'major' event, there won't be any availability remaining at 6 months out. These were Vacation Internationale points they were inquiring about?

Someone got hold of a 'list' and chances are, you will not come out ahead. Stay away, far, far, away.

      Thank you for your reply.

Yes these were VI points but I also have membership in RCI. VI, of course, insists the information could never have come from them.

Any sort of property purchase is public knowledge, so rental companies are able to figure out your name, what you own, etc. Wyndham has a list of our owners' common solicitors. I'll make a post about it

VI is membership, not a property purchase. So, an employee may have sold a list for spending money. VI is a very straightforward company, not necessarily cheap, but good. The company would not have let there list out, knowingly.
