  • RCI Points and SA membership

I am interested in trying out RCI Points. I plan to start out with a small number and use two South African weeks for PFD. Pretty sure this is a no brain-er but here it goes. My RCI account membership has a LOT of years to go before it expires. These were the cheap memberships you could purchase when you bought a SA week (I paid $235 for 10 years and I have MORE than 10 years). If you bought a SA membership, Rci will not credit you the number of years you have in your account, they will only give you credit for the amount you paid ($235 for 10 years). If I decide Points are not for me (RCI changing the rules, ect.) I don't want to give RCI all these cheap membership years.
Will they let me open a separate Points membership and keep me present Weeks membership? Can I transfer my two SA weeks into the Points account for PFD?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Would love to help answer your question but with the way RCI is, you'll have to ask them and hope the VG you get will do it for you. Just make it clear that's what you want.

I think that you are justly concerned that you will lose your long-term RCI Weeks membership, with no way to regain it if you leave RCI Points. In my experience, RCI Points has astonishingly poor customer service. In fact, I recently sold one of my three RCI Points contracts, and RCI seems to have transferred an extra year's points out of my account and into the buyer's account. When I tried to ask a VG about this, he hung up on me.

If I were you, I think I would set up an entirely different account for my RCI Points. I would not tell RCI my RCI Weeks account number. In fact, I would probably set up the new account under my spouse's name, to make sure they stayed separate. Then, if and only if I decided I liked RCI Points, I would transfer "ownership" of my South African weeks to the new account using an MTA, close the weeks account, and ask that the pre-paid dues be refunded to me. This way, if you don't like RCI Points, you still have your long-term RCI Weeks membership.

I had a RCI Weeks account before I bought a RCI Points resort. RCI took my RCI Weeks account and put it under the Points account. Like you, I had multiple years. True, RCI credited me for the amount of time left in my account but applied it against the current rate which was higher for RCI Points than my RCI Weeks had been. The result was a decrease in the time of the membership and a renewal at the higher current rate.

          Thank you

Thanks everyone for your replies. I also posted this question on the TUG BBS and I received a reply from someone in the same situation. I'm going to open a separate Points account and maintain my current Weeks account as RCI will not credit me anywhere near the the value of my Weeks account.

          Thanks,
          Mike
