Each has its own pros and cons. So, the answer is it depends on what you care about.

If you start listing your requirements, perhaps we can provide you some additional input.

      Boca,
Looking for the most for my $. Like a two bedroom unit, weeks 23-30. Like the points system. Location favarable to exchange. (Destin? St Augustine?) Prefer a beach location within 8 Hrs of Atlanta. Looking for a resale. Prefer a fixed week.
      Thanks, rich

        Um? Say it again?

Do you mean a fixed week converted to point program?

You need to spend 6-8 months here just reading and asking questions, there is not one answer to your OP.

            Rich,

I would take a short weekend trip to both of the locations you mentioned and check out the resorts in those areas. Attend a sales presentation and go with your gut. Whichever one you like the most, start reading up on it. Then, rent a few units from someone here at that resort group and then decide what you need from there.

              Richie,

This is really vague. You are seeking to own in a place that is desirable for exchanging, and sometimes use it yourself? That screams fixed week, as you post. But the original question concerns Points. These are kinda 2 different things.

Where do you want to go? How often? For how long (the full 7 nights or just a couple nights, or ...?) What is the makeup of your travel party? Will that change soon (for example, kids are almost out of school or you're early in family life and are planning to have kids ...)?

Finding the best fit for you requires more info and research; determine your priorities. That's the only real way to find The Best Fit.

Everyone here has been careful to not start listing programs but I'm gonna give you a place to start because I'm biased: Bluegreen. Many locations in FL, one in GA, several Myrtle Beach, and one in Aruba (which I believe would be cheap flights from Atlanta), etc. You actually own a week (in trust) that you could use yourself or just use the points attached to that week at the other locations. I find this to be the best of both worlds. If you want to go out of network, you can book for deposit many different resort weeks.

bluegreenonline.com should give you an idea of the resorts.

As has already been mentioned, get out there and do some tours to check quality, amenities and more info about the systems. Be cautious with what a sales rep tells you, tho, as it oftentimes there are many lies to be sorted from the truth. We can help you with that as you narrow in on the best fit For You.

              Good luck!

                points

Bluegreen is exactly the compant that i was impressed with. We have two small children. We like the destin area(not PC) and HH. BG dosen't yet have any resorts in those areas. That is why i was wanting to know opinions on the different points system.

I have heard alot of negative about FF. Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt look nice, however detailed info is scarce.
We like Diseny, but like BG u must go thru an auth resaler, and $$$$.

I would prefer a fixed week with high trading power. That way we could go to destin and HH, and stay at a very nice place during a red week. Or try it out and maybe we will enjoy it.

{You actually own a week (in trust) that you could use yourself or just use the points attached to that week at the other locations. I find this to be the best of both worlds. We have been HGVC for over 10 years, and now own 5 Hilton weeks. I can't say they're the best because I haven't had experience with the others, but it works very well for us. The points required depends on the size unit and season you want to stay in. Some of the new resorts being developed will require additional points.

We belong to Disney Vacation Club and Bluegreen. We have also stayed on friend's points at Wyndham locations. I think that there are so many options available from the various groups, that one needs to do their homework, because only you know what will work best for your family. Best of luck.

                      points comparison

I own RCI points, Fairfield/wyndham points and bluegreen points. If I had to do it over, I would just get Bluegreen points. (and lots of them) The resorts are nice, the maintenance fees are reasonable, and I don't feel like the company is trying to screw me at every turn (unlike Fairfield who changes the "rules" alot). However, I do love the Fairfield resorts, and like being able to rent the points to others when I'm not using them.
I got the RCI points to use for hotels and airfare before I realized that it would be much cheaper to just purchase those items directly. I'm not that impressed with RCI points, but the one thing that I do like is the points for deposit program. I have used it to deposit some of my dog fixed weeks, and then was able to get a nice summer beach week.

                        HI Rich,
I can understand how you are looking for the best possible ownership. But the truth is that you can have either a FIXED WEEK at a resort, or you can own in one of the points Mini-systems.

The pluses of a prime fixed week are you always know exactly when and where you will have use of your week. You get to pay a real serious premium for a prime fixed High Value beach week.

It will trade great, but you will also need to belong to one of the trade companies, pay their annual fee, then their trade fee, and hope someone deposits the week you are hoping to have for your vacation.

The points option(s) are many and diverse.

Most of them you only own points that float.

You can reserve any week in their system using your points( as long as you have or can borrow the correct amount) up to 12 months in advance.

You will pay more for the better systems, I.E. DVC ( Disney vacation Club) BG
( bluegreen vacation Club) SVN ( Starwood Network) etc.

You really need to decide if spending $6-36k for an ownership with $1000-$1500 in annual fees is in your budget.

If not you should continue to rent vacations as you currently do, and save yourself many ( darn I wish I would have listened's )

                        fwiw, Greg

                          Bluegreen

Bluegreen can give you the benefit of both points and a fixed week. BG points are attached to an underlying week. If you can find a deed with a high demand week, you could reserve that week at 12 months. If not, you would have the points to use.
