  • When Home Resort goes Bankcrupt! HELP!

    Hi,

We recently logged on to RCI to check out our next vacation. We are points members. We found that a "hold" had been put on our account. Since we knew our fees were all paid up, we contacted RCI. They advised that our home resort had put the block on it. Then I remembered, back in November we had received a strange letter from a lawyer acting for the resort saying that to join in their new system, we would have to pay $3,000. We saw absolutely no advantage to us so we said "no thank you". We feel that this Hold is the Home Resort's way of forcing us to comply with their $3,000 edict. We contacted RCI at Cendant Corp. and were told that, according to RCI rules, any problems with the Home Resort must be sorted out with them.

We tried, phoning and emailing the home resort. Of course, we have had no replies. I then contacted RCI again and on further checking learned that the Home Resort was now "DS", dis-affiliated with RCI. Also, the HOme resort was claiming backruptcy!

Where did that leave us? We have lost our remaining points for the use year 2006. RCI says we are still an RCI member and can use their system for Extra Vacations for example, but we no longer have any points!!!!!

My question, has anyone out there gone thru this type of thing? If so, how did you deal with it?

    Thank you!

Most people just sit and wait for the results. Others will try to rally the individual owners to action, perhaps creating or hiring a new management or filing suit against the old management or setting up a system for final disolution of the resort. There usually is still some value in resort real properties. If nothing else, I would certainly be in contact with the state's attorney general to investigate.
What resort is this and do you have a deed for the property ?
