  • Considering going to the points program with TMC/RCI

The last time I checked into going from the week program to the points program with RCI there was some outrageous cost of thousands of dollars (I think it was $3000) that was quoted to me by the Manhattan Clulb. I am wondering if anyone has done the transition and found it to be worth it.

I really want to maximize my timeshare usage without feeling riped off.

I suspect it still costs that much and I would never pay it. It's almost all profit for TMC. There are far cheaper routes to obtain RCI points. I bought mine in Australia for far less than what it was costing in the US. There is a points lease deal available from an advertiser on this site (sold out for 2008 though). Others have found good deals at a place in West Virginia. If you are interested I can look for the details.

I wouldn't pay RCI to convert your MC week, especially not with your maintenance fees. I'd rent out the nights you don't want to use yourself, and use the proceeds toward t/s rentals elsewhere.

Oh you really Are CONFUSED. Feeling ripped off is what RCI is all about. Best thing you could do with the high maintenance fees at TMC is use it or rent it. You would never get an exchange worth the costs from RCI although you may from the likes of SFX.

There are very inexpensive options to get into points as previously stated. The real pity is you woud never be able to PFD TMC as it is a points resort.

Thanks to you all. I am glad I asked before I made the plung. I went to a Wyndham presentation yesterday and the topic of conversation was how much better points programs are. They wanted me to buy with them and trade the MC into points through them. What do you all think about that??

It's an old-as-the-hills timeshare game called Bend Over.

Points has it's good side but it is not all it's cut out to be. I have found over the last while a lot of holes and it can be very expensive especially when you are looking at a cost per point like TMC. It also has some pretty stellar features and requires a lot less skill than weeks.

PFD = Points for Deposit. You can convert weeks that are straight weeks to points and deposit them in your account.

Turning your week over to RCI and paying them and TMC $3000 is like buying your week twice, and you have TMC MFs every year plus points fees and you have to renew every 3yrs and pay more fees, and if you wanted a few days in TMC you may have first shot, but its only for weeks that TMC space bank with RCI,
                    DON'T do it,

There is a post in this thread that talks about Land of Canaan in West Virginia. There is a link to the weeks they have for sale. I think they were only charging $295 to convert (RCI's real fee) but I don't see that spelled out in the thread.

RCI's fees to convert is $100.00 plus the 1'st year dues of $124.00.

Can you still make a request in the RCI points system like you can in weeks? Or are you just stuck in getting what's available?

You can start a search in the weeks system from the points side. I've never heard of anyone doing a search for a standard points reservation but I've never asked about it either.

No you can't do a search for a standard points reservation. It is best to check at exactly 10 months out and everything that is available will show up. They may tell you that nothing else will ever show up later but I have seen it happen.
