  • Using RCI Points for Airfare

Can RCI Points cover the total airfare cost, including taxes and surcharges, or does it just cover the base cost of the ticket? I know that points can not be used to pay for the entire cost of the ticket due to the tiered structure RCI uses but if the base cost of a ticket is $390 and taxes are $20, can I use 35,000 RCI points for a $300 cash reduction or 45,000 RCI points for a $400 cash reduction?

I know that using points for airfare may not be the best way to use points but we have a lot of points to use and most of our lodging for next year is already booked.

    Thanks.

When you call RCI Points and they connect you to the points partner rep, you will be given a total cost for the airline ticket. Then, using the tiered system you convert as many points as necessary to get to the closest $100 mark of the ticket. For example, I used points to get a ticket to the Grand Cayman Island. The cost was $898. I used 90,000 RCI points which got me $800 off the ticket. I owed $98 plus the $49 transaction fee. For me, this was well worth the use of my RCI points. Tim
