  • Converting to RCI Points

I am kind of new to the concept of RCI points, I have a couple in the weeks program.

I found this article and it seems like something is missing:

How to Convert a Timeshare to RCI Points Cheaply | Travels.com

You can just submit an application to RCI to convert to points? Don't you have to go through the resort?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, U.S. owners have to own a points unit or convert a weeks unit to points (if the resort is offering conversions). The conversion fee can range from $299 to several thousand dollars. If you are a points owner with weeks units you can use PFD (points for deposit) to convert your weeks to points if you want to do that.

You can do PFD but you cannot convert a week to points if the resort has both a weeks and points system in place. You can only do a PFD in a resort that does not have a points sytem already in place. But you need to own at another resort to have a points account in the first place.

        More Questions

My real question is, can I go DIRECTLY through RCI to convert my weeks to a points account? The article link that I posted seems to imply thay you can.

However, everything that I have read says that you need to go through the resort, which costs anywhere from $1,000 and up. In fact, the resort I own at has on their webpage that they will convert to a poiints account for $1650.

Also, now I am confused on the PFD program with the last post.

I own in weeks at a resort that is also in the points program. The way it sounds IF have a points account at a different resort, I can't reserve that week and then deposit it in my points account?

I have not seen this anywhere else, so if somebody could clarify I would appreciate it.

You can't go directly through RCI to convert your week to points. There are a few resorts that have asked RCI to handle it for them. Not many.

PFD only works for weeks at resorts that do not have any points ownerships. If they do have points ownerships like your resort, your only option is to convert if you really want to get points for it.

In general, $1650 is way more reasonable than most. It's still more than I would want to pay, though.

I previously owned a weeks unit and the RCI rep told me the conversion was going to be something like $1700, but that the $ was based on how valuable the unit was. Mine was a 2BR lockoff in the lowest ranking week. I think I was going to get 24K points for it or something like that. If it was in a better week it would've been more $$$ (and more points).
