Red seasons in RCI vs II

I've been adding a lot of resorts to the TS4Ms database and noted something interesting. RCI seem to have a lot more red weeks than II does at the same resorts. As an example the Beach club of St Augustine has

RCI Season Information: Red: January 01 - December 31

II Season Information: Red 1-37 46-47 51-52 Yellow 38-45 48-50

There are many examples of this through out the database. Where RCI has a much larger Red season then II.

The Royals in Cancun have all red weeks in II, while RCI has some whiteweeks for September at the Royal Mayan and Club International. Interestingly, the new Royal in Playa de Carmen has weeks 36-39 as yellow weeks in II. Maybe the seasons are showing more clearly or maybe the exchange companies are not following the all red scenario they previously set- let's see if they ever change things for Orlando.

II also seems to adjust the seasons based on demand...I have had several of my resorts 'change' seasons....

Not sure about RCI, but II has been known to give some of the better resorts an extra week or more of red season than lesser resorts at the same location.

My Palm Desert resort

is Red week 1- 52 in RCI.
but Yellow in summer with Interval.

That was the reason we joined RCI.

When we first started the database I alerted Ken that there werre differences ( sometimes LARGE differences ) in the week color designations, which is why we have to enter both.

I believe II is a little more honest than RCI in their color designations for the weeks. One of my Coastal California resorts is 'red' all year with RCI but with II it is red from week 9-52. It doesn't really matter because the color designations are just a sales trick. Trading power is based on supply and demand. Knowledgeable people know that there are several shades of red.

Oh absolutely! A summer Palm Desert week certainly isn't RED and Interval is correct to state that. This was our first purchase. We knew about resales but not about shades of seasonal colors. That week being only the palest shade of pink/red.

As a matter of fact the only thing we did RIGHT on that one is it was a PSE resort.

No the reason I used that as an example was to point out the differences in the data between exchange companies that we needed to input to the resort database.

Thanks Lawren. I am still in the SF Bay area and am pretty busy so my presence on the forums will be pretty hit and miss.

One of our resorts is SLBI which is in the PSE group. Which Palm Desert one do you have?

Desert Breezes. We liked the PSE option so much that we came back and bought a prime season "sister" Havasu Dunes. Have in-resort traded to Pono Kai, Laguna Surf and San Luis Bay Inn at no fee exchange.

Did you know more resorts have been added to the list? Last time I called them ( Jan 04 ) the resort list included:

Did Lagonito Lodge at Big Bear drop out? We stayed there one year through PSE.

We have stayed at Vista Mirage, Desert Breezes, and Plaza Resort and Spa several times on bonus time. We no longer do that as we can get a better rate at the Hyatt Regency Suites in downtown Palm Springs and it is much nicer. That is one of the advantages of being old as they give a very substantial discount for seniors. However, we still do the Vista Mirage if we take our family as it is a 2 BR unit.

It seems to me that Red is often based on school holidays and summer vacation time. My RCI red week is the first week of June. In Texas school gets out in May so that is vacation time but I understand other states don't get out until mid-June which means my week is not as appealing to those families.

I don't think that school holidays have very much, if anything, to do with it. Coastal California properties and many others are often designated as red all year.
