Thanks BB & Lawren.........I love to shop, and I love to find deals. I shop all the time for my clients, and I love when I find them a great piece, at a really good price.

This is similiar.....It's fun to find nice resorts, and I love when someone can take advantage of the good ones........

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Getting back to the orginal idea of this thread. "Better to own or to rent."

Well in my case, the Marriott TS rental for $2000 just became a lot cheaper with a Redweek rental coming up for Kauai at the Embassy (sunterra) for just $700 for the exact dates we need. My DW says she still want to go with the Marriott but if we wanted, we could have rented from Marriott directly and since Marriott lets you cancel up to 2 days before travel with no penalty, we could now get a late rental at the Embassy for just $700.

It sounds like you got some wonderful exchanges!

I am curious about the word "save". If you have to pay with real money, what is the chance you would have paid the $4000?

Or what is the maximum you would have paid if you could not get these exchanges?

That's what I would have had to pay if I rented instead of exchanged for the resort and the dates I got. The probability that I would have paid that much to go there is zero, because I would have gotten something else instead for roughly the same price.

That's great. If you had just as much patience, you could have gotten it for less than $400-500 if you exchanged rather than rented by owning the right timeshares and watching Angela's hourly sightings.

I agree with Boca's responses. Renting is fine, and everyone has that option all the time, and when a rental bargain pops up, I grab it.

In my experience, owning does not always save money over renting, but often it gets you into a better resort or better season for the same price as a rental.

It also depends a lot on how hard you are willing to work to look for a great exchange. Time is money after all.
