I have a timeshare with Interval International in Mexico. The package came with a free year of the gold membership. The gold membership expired and I only have the platinum membership. Since I do not have the gold membership, they would not let me exchange my points for another time share location. Due I need the gold membership to exchange my points. I want to stay with Interval International, but the gold membership was too expensive. Are there companies that offer gold type memberships so I can exchange my points with Interval International?

I would be surprised if you need the gold membership for exchanges. There are two separate memberships to II. The basic membership is required to register a timeshare ownership and allows deposit of your week and exchanges to other resorts. This is a yearly membership and the current cost, I believe, is $89/year with discounts for multiple year sign up. Without knowing the specifics of your timeshare ownership (for example some timeshares include II basic membership as part of their annual fees), this is what you need to exchange your week for other resorts.
As for the Gold membership, general consensus is that unless you buy getaways from II the gold membership isn't worth the extra $59/year(over and above the basic membership cost). Gold members get a $25 discount on the price of getaways so if you do two or more a year, the discount basically pays for your membership. You can go the the II website to check out all the benefits of gold membership.

hmmmm, this question makes me wonder if that's why DRI suddenly gave members of THE Club a membership with Interval Gold. It also appears that those who buy trust based ownership on the resale market can't trade their points unless they join DRI's THE Club, which includes Interval Gold. This makes me wonder if Interval has placed a requirement for points based programs who want to strictly exchange points rather than reserve a week for deposit must have their owners in the Interval Gold membership. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/
