RCI - I can't get into Disney!

And the only way to see what is on the "weeks" side is to deposit something with enough trading power to pull DVC inventory?

Is there any consensus on whether the "points" or "weeks" DVC inventory is bigger?

I'm in the Bluegreen system, so I could either book a high demand week and deposit it in the "weeks" side or use my points to book something through the "points" side. I'm not really sure which is the better idea, since I can't see the "weeks" inventory, or even really know what deposit week would be high enough demand.

According to my resort (which is both a weeks and points resort as is DVC), you can book their weeks with points but need to call a rep to do so as you won't be able to see them on line. Of course, rules change so often that one never knows....

Is there any kind of logic in how DVC weeks are added in the "points" inventory, or is it just random? Right now it looks like there is some availability in November and January, and a few in April (10 months out).

I don't check Points very carefully, but as far as I can tell I believe they follow the same deposit pattern that Weeks does. Deposits dribble into the system, a few each day and usually a larger deposit each week. Deposits can show up anytime between now (cancellations) and 11 months out. The bulk seem to go in right around seven months, give or take, and another bump happens at 11 months out.

That's correct.

It seems like things hang around a little longer in Points. That's possibly because there are no ongoing searches there, so it's not clear that there is really more inventory. I don't think there is a consensus on this question.

I think this last observation is the kicker---that would encourage me to go Points-side rather than Weeks-side. The trade power needed in Weeks is a slippery thing.

So, my advice is go points, and start checking as soon as that 10 month window opens. You may need to check daily, or close to it, and don't give up hope if you don't see something right away.

Thanks! That's kind of what I was thinking, but I'm still pretty new at this so I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious.

I own at DVC and we are having trouble trading out also. It really started with the change to RCI. I traded several times when we could trade into II. If you can't find a trade into those particular resorts at DVC, try Saratogo Springs or Old Key West. They have the most units. The ones you are checking don't have many units and sometimes are even hard for members to get into. You may even find a member who would like to make a direct trade with you. I have done that before for a Marriott. Good Luck!

How do you find members for a direct trade. I have Interval and I own at Disney but I would love to be able to use my Interval trade to get back into Disney. Any thoughts appreciated.

You might try the website Disney World - The Largest Unofficial On-Line Guide to Disney World, Walt Disney World as they have a site that list people trying to trade in or out of Disney. I found the people who I have traded with there. What is your home resort and company? I own Wyndham and DVC. I can only trade with RCI for both of them as of now. Hope this helps.

Points or Weeks?

Unlike most Points resorts, DVC doesn't deposit all of their inventory at the 10-month mark. It comes more or less continuously in a steady trickle. So, just because nothing is there now, doesn't mean you've missed it. However, DVC only allows full-week bookings, no partial weeks, and they always start on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. So, if you're looking for a long weekend you won't find it.

If you are looking in Weeks, you should be able to see anywhere from zero to about 30 units this evening. The number you see will give you a sense of your trade power in this range.

May is actually quite a bit lower demand-wise than February in Orlando generally, and it seems at Disney in particular.

Exchanging into Disney could be extremely difficult if you don't own something with really good tp and deposit at least a year in advance.

You could always rent; not finding an exchange should not prevent you from going.

Also I am a points member with RCI and want to see about getting into Disney California Villas (DCV). Dose this ever come up in the points system? or how about any places near Disneyland?

For Points, the situation is a little simpler. Either you have the points or you don't, but you know what is there and what isn't.

I would not expect to see GCV deposited hardly ever. It's a *very* small resort, and DVC tends to deposit things that the members themselves don't book up early.

DisneyLand Resorts on RCI Points

I would not expect to see any of the Disney units in Disneyland show up in RCI Points for a while. RCI Points usually gets some Disney action, but I have never seen any of the newest resorts such as Disney's Grand California Villas or Bay Lake Towers. Animal Kingdom Villas is the 3rd newest Disney timeshare resort and seems to have the lowest inventory placed in RCI Points, while the older and larger resorts like Sarasota Springs or Old Key West almost always have some availability. You might put an ongoing search in RCI Weeks and get lucky, but you would have to have a top RCI Weeks deposit to have any chance to get one of the new resorts. The are usually several resorts available in the Anaheim area on Points and Weeks. I can't recommend any as I haven't been there, yet.

I will try to do a direct exchange with a family member who has purchased DVC and whose home resort is GCV. In the meantime I will keep looking into the other resorts in that area.

My go-to resort there would probably be the WorldMark Anaheim. Dolphin's Cove is a step below that, I suspect, but still acceptable to many. You could arrange a direct exchange with WM owners at (surprise!) wmowners.com

We stayed at Dolphin's Cove and really liked it, although we had a three bedroom which may have been nicer than the smaller units.

You have to have something really special to trade with someone for DVC. Back in the day, I did it a couple of times with Smuggs units, but now that Smuggs is easier to get, as is DVC, (provided you have RCI points, at least) those days are over.
