  • Anyone with an RCI Points account willing to help me out?

My RCI account has been screwed up since Jan 2010. Despite hours and hours on the phone with them, they've been unable to fix the problem.

I'm able to search Standard and Weeks reservations just fine, but I cannot hold or book them online - I have to wait until RCI is open and book, IF the week I'm after is still available.

Last night I missed out on a gem of a Last Minute week and I'm frustrated, but not nearly as frustrated as I'll be in another month. I'm patiently waiting until the first week of August when I can book a 2nd week to go with a Hawaii week I already have booked. I want to book it right at 11pm CST when availability comes online, but I have little hope that RCI will have fixed my account by then.

    It will take 93000 points.

If anyone is willing to help me by holding it at 11pm on the correct night until the next morning, I would really appreciate it!

Are you able to place an ongoing search in points for your Kingsland week?
If not, maybe a supervisor can do that for you.

You can't do an ongoing search for a Points resort

Kingsland is the one I already have booked. I'm going for another Hawaii week, one that is in Points. You can't do an ongoing search for Points weeks in RCI Points, only Weeks resorts.

      Thanks tho - good idea!

If no one else has offered to help, I would be glad to help you with it. Let me know. I am also rickandcindy23 on TUG. I have points in my account and can hold the week for you. I am guessing it's Shearwater for that number of points. MY favorite of any Hawaii resort!

          Cindy, thanks!

I sent you a PM. I appreciate your offer to help and also the other I received.

I was on the phone with RCI again today for 31 minutes. The first guy, from reservations, was very polite and helpful and apologetic. He immediately looked to see if the week was still there somewhere and if he could get it for me.

Then he passed me on to the web support guys. I hadn't even finished explaining the problem when he INTERUPTED me and said "you're probably booking peak summer weeks; they can disappear before you finish the process".

It drives me nuts when people have made their minds up before they have the facts

I said no, not peak summer weeks. Pick your lowliest of low demand weeks and try to book it with my RCI Points account; you'll get the same error.

Then he tries, sees I'm right (no oops, my bad or anything) and puts me on hold for about 20 minutes. When he comes back he says he can't see any problem with the account and he's going to send it off to get it reviewed by the technical team.

This is EXACTLY what has happened on each of my 3 previous phone calls (2 of which I spoke with a manager at the end of) and I said so to him. He said that there are no notes on my file that it was ever reviewed to the tech team.

I was very polite, but I told him at this point that I'm very frustrated because I've spent 4 hours on the phone with them trying to resolve it, I get promises that I'll be called back at a certain day and it will be resolved, etc. with no results. But the worst thing is that now because they haven't fixed it, I have lost a week I really wanted. His response?

"Well, the good weeks go in minutes!"

I was still polite but maybe not "very polite" at this point. I said, Dude, I'm online at 11 CST on the dot because I realize they go in minutes. I'm doing everything right but I'm losing out because you guys aren't fixing this.

No apology. I didn't even bother asking for a manager this time because I was out of time.

So tomorrow maybe I'll call again if I have 30-45 minutes to kill.

Anyway, thanks to Cindy and Len.

If your account is not broken and you plan well, you can be the one who got the good ones...

                  Well put, Philsfan!

Cmonty, I use RCI Points only. I have a free RCI weeks account but I don't use it.

The advantage of RCI Points is that if the unit is available and you have the points, you can book it (again, assuming your account isn't broken, LOL)> There is no such thing as trade power and no "black hole" where you deposit a week without having any idea what you can get for it.

In RCI Points, there is great availability at certain resorts I'm very interested in such as Manhattan Club and Wyndham Shearwater. There is pretty good availability at DVC.

I think a points system is inherently more fair because you don't have a trade up / trade down issue. If you deposit a crappy week, you get few points for it (and you know in advance how many you'll get). If you deposit 3 or 4 crappy weeks, you can use those accumulated points for one fantastic week.

I've got the 3 year lease and so far, I'm pleased with how it works for me. I've traded into HGVC Kings' Land, DVC Vero Beach, Manhattan Club (x2), and a few odd days here and there.

                  Unfortunately, their tech support.

Thanks for the info! I'm just a newbie shopping for a potential resale (maybe) so this was very informative and i appreciate it. Good luck with your tech issue and i think they should comp you a free week just for the hassle!

                      cmonty,

You're smart to be reading and learning here before you buy!

I have purchased timeshares that really work well for me and my family situation, and the main reason I was able to do that is that I found TS4MS (and TUG, and the Yahoo Bluegreen group) and studied up before I bought.

I like your idea about asking RCI to comp me a week Next time I talk to the tech support manager I might ask them about that!
