Many SOCALS are quite fond of Baja, although I met a well-traveled couple here a month ago who will not set foot across the border, after it being a big part of their lives all their lives (60-ish now).

Something about his abduction and being held for ransom.

Our best friends here love their Mex TS, and just bought another week.

We prefer going places where the likeliehood is that no one will overthrow the government, or take control of the region, while we are there.

Do every other years have less MF?

If you have every other year points, does that mean the MF is every other year?

I get billed in the year of use on 3 of my EOY and my Wyndham bills me monthly so it depends on the system how they handle it.

I have two. One bills me EOY and the other bills me half annually.

I thought maybe there was an advantage for MF EOY.

But if you have a certain amount of points, your MF is going to get paid wether its annaul or EOY...

Balances out if it's 500,000 EOY or 250,000 Anual, right?

            Just LKING for any advantages...

no advantages to EOY w MFs that I am aware of. Often developers sell EOY "weeks" deed for more than half of the annual deed price.

The biggest advantage of an EOY contract is that it will provide you the cheapest route to get started. Your maintenance fees will be half of what an every-year timeshare would be. Of course that means you will only be able to use it half of what an every-year unit (or points) would allow you to.

But, it is an excellent cheap method to get started into timeshares and to learn the ropes. There are going to be some experiences and knowledge about timeshares that you'll only gain by using them. And if you make a bad choice, well... it will only be half as bad.

The advantage is that you don't get in over your head with yearly MF's. Trust me, they add up and if you want to have flexibility in where you go, once you are an educated TS consumer you'll be owning more than one system.

                  One size doesn't fit all.

My vacation style is so different throughout the year that I like the flexibility of one month staying deluxe and the next month staying budget friendly. I don't need Hilton and Marriott on every vacation but every now and then it's nice to stay deluxe. Then again it's also nice to pick up a week for $79 at Westgate for a quick mouse fix. Sure beats Motel 6 in Kissimmee.

The problem with owning a small contract every year as opposed to a bigger contract EOY is that you then have to bank and borrow to have enough points to do what you want to do. With an EOY you can still bank and borrow but you don't have to as often, you just use your points that particular year in that TS system and then use another in the other EOY assuming that you own more than one TS system. There are sometimes fees required to bank points so having all your points in the same year avoids that issue.

We started with an EOY and added the other year the next year, with Wastegate, and they found a way to make the fee like 2 every years.

I guess that I have already had a little experience of enjoying my Moms TS with Trend West WM,at Big Bear during christmas and New Years for several years and now more recently Ocean Walk FL. She traded with Wyndham to get that. So, there is an "in" using her member ship in WM... Suggestions here?

And now that I live in Nashville, I want to see this side of the country (instead of west coast) and figure out some good spots.

I like boating too, I want to have some nice water ski resort next to some waters that are smooth. With docks and a launch ramp and sandy beach I can pull up on with the boat. Not rocks...
Any body know a spot like that?

Long Beach California had a place called Marine Stadium...
                      LOVED IT!

Sandy beach, calm waters and boat dock sounds like Bonita Beach resort on SW Florida. You can also bring your own boat and park the trailer there. They've got a marina right next door to gas up. I don't water ski but we used to drag one of those little banana floaties behind the boat. That was fun and the water is nice for that in the summer. The resort isn't a points resort but you could probably get it with a points deposit thru Wyndham.

TS available for less than MF in FL pan handle?

                          That sounds really nice!
                          South West Florida?

Doesn't get much more south than that! Just googled it.
But I like the way you think!
                          Thanks!

I bet there are more resorts like it and closer to the pan handle of Florida...

I guess I just need to hone in on a resort closer to Nashville and start figuring out how to use my mom's point system and start planning for next summers trips.

I would probably take another trip now if I could line it all up soon enough...
                          Before it gets too cold!

Any one know of TS available for less than MF in FL pan handle?

I'm not familiar with the panhandle resorts since I've got so many closer to me but I do know that Oyster Pointe also has boats available when you stay in the resort. I believe they are also free. That's on the Sebastian Inlet on the East coast of FL.

Looks like Hilton Head would be about 9 hours for you.... plenty of t/s there, great bikeable beach and beautiful bike paths, super kid friendly.

                                I'll look into those thanks

Sorry I have been out of the loop here but kids can keep you busy.
Just about ready to use my Moms again to watch the leaves change color.
I'll update after the trip next week on that.
