  • Orange Lake Sections

When you receive an exchange into Orange Lake from RCI and it specifies the location, can Orange lake change the section upon check in. A week ago I received an exchange for this March into a 3 bedroom in the River Island section #8881 and I really don't want to be changed when I arrive. The exchange was not part of an ongoing search, when I logged in to see what was available it was there. I have also received a unit # on my confirmation, can this change upon checkin ?

    In most cases, no

You should receive the unit and the division on your confirmation, unless, there is a maintenance issue, or something on long those lines. Nice catch, we stayed in May 2009 in a 3 bedroom in the East Village, great suite, nice resort. The only thing that bugs me about OL is their in room supplies, for 6 of us in a 3 bedroom 3 bath unit, they gave us a little baggie of stuff, it had 2 dishwasher packets, 2 dawn liquid squeeze packets ( single use) 4 rolls of Toilet tissue and a midget roll of paper towels. We had to buy replacements for all the above items at the store, as with 3 kids, there was no way to get by with those few supplies.

    fwiw,

Unless they have changed, units are assigned the week of arrival.

Prior to OL being divided into separate resorts . . . West Village, North Village, East Village and River Island . . . OL was considered one resort. A 2 bedroom unit could be a 30-year-old ground-level golf villa or a relatively new unit in a midrise building. &, they would bounce around exchangers in favor of owners.

It was an improvement to outsiders to be able to select the area. I am 99% certain unit assignment or request cannot be done in advance. That used to be a common topic on these forums, so I would think I woulda heard if it changed. Maybe River Island is different.

The several times we stayed there (past tense), we always took a 3-bedroom, so that helped on the newness. Maybe we did not always catch the refurbishing schedule right, but we never got a bad unit, speaking only of the unit.

When you have a turnover of, say, 10000 guests a week, you tend to stick with the system you've always used.

They always were prompt and polite in answering my emails. Even the time I signed it Jose' Jiminez, they answered with my real name, and a snickering smilie.

I can't see going back, but you never know.

Just googling around about OL, I found this:

RCI and Orange Lake have chosen make a distinction between the villages, and from 2009 and on, the deposits will be earmarked not only for the unit size, but for the village as well.

Orange Lake Country Club - Timeshare Users Group Online Community Forums

It is from an OL owner whom I have always considered to be a credible source . . . however, she also said in the same post:

"If someone exchanges into my unit, it cannot be given back, even if RCI has other similar deposits."

Which I believe to be false based on a person I consider to be even more credible within RCI, who has told me that even if a deposit you have made into the Spacebank has been taken for an exchange, you can get it back as long as there is another similar deposit at the same resort in the Spacebank.

"However, don't worry too much. Orange Lake assigns exchange units in their own manner - a confirmation never shows a unit number. Because of this, when they can, they often assign people to the same unit for consecutive weeks. As an owner, if your unit was an exchange unit for the week following your use (or the week before), they will often try to put you in that same unit for your second week. Be forwarned that this doesn't always work - and some people have been angry about being moved 3 weeks in a row, but I have heard more situations where people have staying in the same unit than having been moved."

Thanks for the info. My confirmation actually has unit 81530AB on it. I called Orange Lake to ask if this unit was a pool view or woods/parking lot view. She seemed a little confused that I had a unit # on my RCI confirmation but assured me that unit was a pool view.

My biggest concern of course was that when I checked in they would try and put me into another village other than River Island. We have been to Orange Lake twice in the past 12 years and each time we have had a West Village 2 bedroom with a long walk to the pools... This will be much nicer

The one certainty concerning RCI is uncertainty.

For 42TPU it better be all that and during a holiday.

Its in March this year Lauren, but 42 TPU's still leaves me with 124 TPU's in my RCI acct from my 2010 weeks and all my other vacations slots for 2011 are booked.

Depends when you go. The pools are good, including River Country, but are always very crowded most of the time.

                            Orange Lake Exchange rules

Went to Orange Lake West village 2 years back. Does this mean I cannot exchange into the other villages until the travel rule expires?

I think OLCC is still 1-in-3?

Yes unless you use another exchange company than RCI.
