  • My first exchange

Well, I think it is time to venture into my first exchange.

Having no real understanding of the RCI and II trading systems, and the various trading powers I have decided to more than likely go with DAE as Karen and I would like to travel to the UK and they seem to have a pretty good selection.

I would like to know a couple things before I do this, and would appreciate any thoughts and opinions you can offer. Although I do realize that 2 BDRMS have more trading power than 1, the decisions was to go with a 1 bedroom in August 2011 at Carriage Ridge / Carriage Hills through my SVC points but have not decided which week.

My questions are one, what happens if the week that I deposit does not get picked up by anybody else? Do I lose the credit that I earn in return?
Also, if my sole reason is to "upgrade" am I better to pick another resort that requires less points? I know there are other locations, with availability, during non-peak times that could probably be had for fewer points than the week I am renting. This would allow people an opportunity to go to a resort that from what I have seen does not have a lot of availability.

Last question is what happens to the credit earned / banked reservation if I sell / give away the contract that the reservation is booked with?

I can answer a few of your questions, though not all.

First, your deposit does not need to be picked up by someone else for you to keep your credit.

Second, once you deposit a week with any exchange company, you cannot transfer the reserved week to another party. So if you sell your contract, new ownership would begin after the time period you used to make the reservation for the deposited week.

Your other questions relate to trading power based on supply/demand - I see from your post on Ask DAE that you are aware that this shouldn't affect your trade request, so I applaud you for your consideration - this is the kind of approach that really supports the independents. Bravo.

That is not true for all exchange companies. I sold 8 weeks I had banked at SFX and they transferred the weeks to the buyer.
