So who has any information on what exactly II is doing with Points? Is it a change over to expose trade values similar to RCI Points lite or a full RCI Points type conversion? I hear it has already been shown or even activated at a couple large II resorts - anyone heard what it's about & how they are implementing? I knew they had to make the switch but it has taken longer than I thought.

I'll see if I can learn anything today at the convention.my travel website: Vacation-Times.org.

So far, I've heard nothing other than your post. While on the one hand it would surprise me, on the other hand it makes sense for Interval to move towards a points based exchange system. Many of the large timeshare groups already have some sort of points system that has to be converted to weeks for exchanges through Interval. By going to points, all that would be necessary would be something akin to currancy conversion.
For me it's not big deal anymore. The major developers we own with already have their own internal exchange systems. The two timeshares we own that do not have internal systems are two that we can easily go to every year. In fact, I wasn't planning on renewing our private I.I. membership once it expires. It's just to costly to maintain that membership at $89/year plus pay exchange fee's of $139/$149 for domestic exchanges plus pay the MF's on that one resort we own that trades through Interval but isn't in some sort of developer internal trade program.
For us, it would be to little to late. We're pretty pleased with the internal exchanges we're getting through our present ownerships. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/

Actually, the developers with their own points systems often do not like an overlay of someone else's points system. That is at least part of the reason that several points based developers left RCI shortly after they rolled out GPN (predecessor of RCI Points) and moved to II. Cendent had to buy the companies to bring two of them back under RCI.
If I were a developer, non-points II would be a heck of a lot more appealing as a platform for driving sales.

Just my two cents worth, but personally I like the points systems although they can be a little challenging to understand at first.
The freedom to travel to multiple destinations is to me what sets them apart from the traditional type time share.
As I can hear it already, if you want other destinations that's what the exchanges are/were for. However exchanges have been doing for years what the points system is doing now. Allowing people to trade 2 weeks at a lower class resort or off peak season for one good resort week or vice versa.
The difference is that you now you have on 3rd party company determining trade value and point value of all the other developers evaluations of what is a good/bad resort or peak/non peak season and as we all know this often competes or is not in line with what WE think is fair, valuable or correct (and the developers).

Exact number systems stink because there is no way to get exact numbers exactly right,
I guess we can always go back to trading beads and livestock.

The only reason I'd hate to see I.I. go to a points based system is I've seen how badly RCI is screwed up. We dropped our personal account with RCI several years ago. It would be a shame to see Interval travel that same road. IMHO, it's proven bad for owners but profitable for RCI.Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/
