II goes Points

Thank you. I knew the source was so good that it had to exist but I hadn't heard a peep about it for well over a year. It was a surprise to hear it had been rolled out! It obviously is a buy-in, RCI Points type membership and that only makes sense as they want to generate income as well as new members. I would say it's a true option to DRI/Marriott, etc that use II with their point systems as having more potential resorts in the system is attractive. Offsetting that - if this is how it works - is the exchange fee due for every use vs the free transactions most mini-systems offer. That plus the cost to buy in may determine the real value vs the existing mini's. Now we need numbers for membership & ongoing fees. But it is the new direction of II thus completing the change over to points by all the major players. It had to happen.

As usual the primary focus of II is always the developer with the mere members usually an afterthought along for the ride.

Since I anticipate this will be sold through the developers, allowing developers to take a profit by pricing it above what Interval will charge developers (ala RCI) it makes sense for Interval to market the concept to developers first.
Overall I'm not thrilled about this prospect but, that's only because RCI screwed their members over so badly when they originally cut this new road. Perhaps Interval will do a better job. I'm not anticipating they will but, they will have the opportunity.
At this point, I'm feeling pretty good about the mini-systems we're in. I'm anticipating making the two ownerships we have that are not in mini-systems personal use only. The one resort that is RCI affiliated is already out of RCI's system as we elected not to renew that membership a few years ago. This change could very well make the decision to drop our personal account with Interval much easier. We'd been leaning that way anyway. This is just one more reason not to pay them additional fee's in the future. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/

RCI has never been that anti-member / pro developer.
In my case, I'm much better at getting value from Interval than RCI. So much so that we let our RCI membership go a few years back and, I refuse to buy a resort that is affilated with RCI. I bet I can list just as many "good" trades through I.I. as you can through RCI. Want to give it a shot? Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/

We dropped our paid II membership over 5 years ago & only wish we'd dropped it sooner to save $$! We haven't paid for RCI weeks since 1995 when we joined the Wyndham system. We sold that and our RCI Points last year so we no longer have any direct memberships with RCI/II - only the DRI/II corporate account (which has been very good at getting trades in II unlike our paid membership that got us zip in over a decade). If you are using mostly DRI/II then you're not getting the real II experience but the vastly better II CORPORATE account priority. Exactly what I was referring to that RCI doesn't do. Paying to be an II member is money thrown away IMO & experience.
Soon, we'll be like you without a personal account at either RCI or Interval. The mini-systems have become easier to manage and provide us with adaquate variety and quality. However, every mini-system we own, Marriott, Hilton and DRI are all managed by either Interaval or RCI. So one is never completely free from either. RCI and Interval are both alike in that they market themselves to developers, not to individual members. Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/

Since I prefer to back up my sentiment concerning Interval not being a bad exchange company and, certainly no worse than RCI, here's a list of the exchanges we've made over the years. One can make up their own mind as to the value of these exchanges.
I have eliminated the Marriott to Marriott exchanges as they could be viewed as mini-system exchanges since there has always been a Marriott preference with Interval. That leaves only the direct exchanges that can not be tied to a corporate account. The exchanges of DRI's Polo Towers are before joining THE Club and having access to DRI's corporate account. Make of it what you will but, for my money, RCI and Interval have very few differences in quality to their members. It simply comes down to preference.
