  • RCI reneging on Manhattan Club booking, is cancelling my exchange

I booked 2 units for Manhattan Club for the same week because our family is a large size and rang up about another matter and the VC checked my account and saw the 2 MCs I had booked online the previous day. We are in Australia and I generally feel that the Australian VCs may not be as knowledgeable about certian aspects of exchanging that is common in the U.S.
They say the 1 in 4 means that you can't book more than one unit for the same check-in nor can you book two consecutive weeks. I thought had read to the contrary. Is this correct.
    They're cancelling my second unit!

He told me that you cannot book 2 units for the same date or 2 units consecutive. I asked where it was on their site so I can look it up but the first VC said it wasn't there. Then the supervisor suggested it would have been in the terms and conditions that he he said I didn't read properly. He said that a few times, indicating that it was my fault for not reading it properly.

I do not recall seeing those terms at all, but the supervisor kept saying I clicked and hadn't read it properly. I said I thought I had read the contrary on the internet. I'm sure I had read about 1 in 4 in the past on passing, which is why I never questioned that I had done anything wrong.

I am so upset as it is our dream trip and we thought we'd never be able to afford to stay in Manhattan at all originally. We had even crossed it off our list until this came up.

They are going to cancel it and maybe I just need to book a hotel for the rest of the family near the Manhattan Club? They're holding it until Monday. They said if they don't cancel it, then when I try to check-in at MC, they won't allow it as the US will cancel it automatically.

Syd, how many in the family???? We will work it out.

I know it says it is a 1 in 4 in the terms and conditions but it definitely does not say only one unit.
On the other hand it does not say 10 units, either.

Does RCI Platinum still have availability at the Affinia hotel in Manhattan? If so, it would definitely be worth joining since I don't believe the Affinia had a 1 in 4 rule. I am not Platinum so I cannot tell. Sydney, when are you supposed to go to NYC?

Maybe you can get a second unit via SFX.

End of 2012. I think I am a member of SFX but have never used them.

This is for my husband's long service leave and also our eldest who will be 18 and would have just finished his final year of high school at the end of 2012. It was our dream trip. We had originally thought NYC was too hard for our family and I even checked for rentals but it was way out of our price range. SO I had crossed it off the list and looked for the West Coast of the US. When these two units came up, we thought it was a dream come true and never did I for a second think that it was a glitch or that I had not read the rules properly.

If we can't get a second unit for our family, we'll have to skip New York altogether.

I was so excited, and even had been singing in the car and around the house when I first booked it. The whole family was just so amazed and happy when I told them last night at dinner.

Instead of taking their word for what the T&C say, demand that they tell you where to find it on the website. This really smells.

I concur that you should try SFX.

I would also grade MC down on such things as Hospitality and Check-In / Check-Out on your RCI comment card.

I own Worldmark AU so can get a prime week in Sydney. Maybe I should use my Worldmark for SFX. Have never used my SFX account before.

Usually you can do concurrent or back-to-back weeks, but there are a few resorts that place further restrictions. The Mayans do, I think. But, I think they also say so in their Urgent Information. I don't see anything like that in MC's.

SFX would be a better deal for MC in any event, because the exchange fee is cheaper, it does not include the "hospitality" fee, *and* there is no 1-in-4.
