  • Dangling Carrots

I find myself currently with 6 confirmed vacations all lined up between now and July 2014. I usually have 3, maybe 4 lined up, but I think 6 may be a record for me. The first 3 are drive-to vacations here in California: Tahoe, Carlsbad and Windsor. Then two weeks in Grand Cayman, two weeks in Orlando to visit DD#2, and finally 4th of July week at a timeshare near Yellowstone where I have owned for a few years, but have never stayed at. Sometimes I even confirm an exchange while on an exchange! I'm not happy if I don't have that "dangling carrot" in front of me to look forward to.

Yes, I admit to this addiction or illness happily. For God's sake, I am posting this at 3:00 a.m.

How about you? How many carrots do you have dangling?

I am so looking forward to JLBs response to this thread.
As we all know thanks to him, timesharing is a very bad thing.

Anyway , I am currently booked thru June 2015 using my ownerships in St Thomas (January) and Caymans (March)
I have exchanges to Windjammers St Lucia, Paris, Jenson Beach/Stuart FL, New York City, Aruba, Las Vegas, St Kitts and two non-TS trips to Australia and China.

I am with some TSing friends right now planning Hawaii 2016

I am still drinking the Kool Aid and still happy.

      Love those dangling carrots!

Timeshares are not necessarily used exclusively for pleasure!

Just returned from Laguna Shores, a first time stay for me in my second hometown, and WM Windsor 5 miles from a conference site. In August I stayed at Gulfstream Manor while I attended a course for business.

I have some pleasure and business stays planned. 2 weeks in December left for this year (pleasure), 2 weeks in GCM (pleasure), a week in Destin (work), a week in Seattle (work) and 6 weeks in SCAL (work) for 2014. I'll probably stick something in the 4th quarter for pleasure.

Timeshare allows me to stay an extra day or three on top of business to enjoy the area and wind down inexpensively.

Well since you are such a great mixologist I'm still drinking the Kool Aid with you.

So true, I just got back from Grande Vista.
It was a business trip for us. 3 Days at a Jewelry show.
Of course we did find time to visit my favorite restaurant at Disney Sanaa and do some outlet mall shopping.

And just hanging out at the resort playing pool and ping pong after the show is always fun.
And then there is of course the happy hour by the pool bar and no worries about driving.
And since we had a 3 bedroom and split the cost between 3 our 4 nights came out to $150 each.
Much better than staying in a motel/hotel and way more space.

I forgot to answer the OP's question. LOL

I have one to Key West next month, a few DVC points I gotta use before November if I don't rent them first.
A ressie to the new DVC Grand Floridian in February, a trip to Morritts Grand planned next year, a Royal Vista stay with my Wyn points in 2014, a Platinum Interchange exchange to Jensen Beach in 2014, of course my fixed weeks in Hollywood beach and come January will be booking the rest of my Wyn points and HGVC points for more beach time. Just waiting for my free transaction to kick in.

Was going to do Hawaii next year but it looks like it might have to wait til 2015 when I reload on DVC points. That one will be a cruise too so not as much TS stays, just Alaunai & Hilton Hawaiian Village.

I've got a week in San Francisco in December, a week at Highlands Inn in Carmel in February, a week at Lawrence Welk Escondido in March followed by a week in Cave Creek, AZ, then 2 weeks in Palm Desert to fill out the month. Nothing beyond that for now because we are planning a 7 week cross country trip in the fall in our RV with no timeshares involved. I'm sure I'll book some short stay trips at San Luis Bay Inn with my Diamond points and maybe some bonus time at Palm Desert late in the year.

For me the dangling carrots are not the trips I already have planned and booked, but the ones I see and can't book!

                  That being said, my current carrots are;

Oct 25, 2013 - An II exchange to our favourite Carriage Hills
June 6, 2014 - An II exchange to Grande Rockies Resort in Alberta
July 5, 2014 - A Platinun exchange to Cranberry Resort in Collingwood
Aug 29, 2014 - An RCI exchange to Tamarack Club in New York (thanks Jackio) like the OP, confirmed while on vacation
Mar 6, 2015 - An SFX exchange of two weeks to Grand Mayan Los Cobos.

I would have more, but we have a cruise planned in March of 2013, and the annual non timeshare trip to Nova Scotia to visit Karen's Mom. If I had planned a little better and had more vacation time there of course would be more but alas these full week long stays really eat up the vacay time.

Already working on the rest of 2015 and 2016!

Talk about dangling a carrot - Hawaii 2016! Can I be your TSing friend too?

I actually keep a 5-year wish list - happy to say that a 5-year look back to 2008, I've hit most of my targets! I leave a little wiggle room for surprises.

I've got a few things in the works, the farthest out is a TUG Panama cruise in 2015!

I still have 4 before the end of this year.
I'm actually trying to not schedule anything too far in advance. There's been so many really great last minute things that come up that I can't do because I have too many plans.

That's kind of my plan too cause I've been tortured with all these last minutes opportunities but I had plans so far in advance that I missed out on some nice Disney opportunities.
But I'll be prepared for next year.

Nice to know folks are thinking about me

Needless to say, yes, I am past the dangling carrots, gloating and bagging phase, and into the warning those who have not bought yet, but who should consider all aspects of obligating themselves to timeshares.

That's my target, not those who are timeshare-enraptured. But, read if you can't help yourself.

Again, thanks for thinking about me.

Oh completely forgot that I booked one that JLB can appreciate.

A unit at Club Regency at Marco for June of 2015 and it's oceanfront.
