  • RCI is still playing around with trade power

I only have 14 TPUs. I've been watching a specific resort for a specific check-in dates in late Jan/early Feb. There were plenty of units to choose from in the weeks before and after my date for 14 or less. Today, everything jumped to over 14, some are well over 14. So, the old system is still in place, more demand means they will adjust the trade power that you will need to get what you want just like before the TPU system.

RCI's ''adjustments'' are just as likely to be arbitrary. Lots of things in setting points lite aka TPU's have absolutely nothing to do with supply or demand. It is a totally corrupt system.

Yes, I've noticed this for some time. Last year the tpus for a week I booked went down when there was a subsequent bulk deposit, but RCI stuck by its "system." This year I am playing the waiting game, but looks like it's not going to work in my favor.

and yet there are overpriced weeks sitting for months and months in which the TPU is never adjusted downward.

I believe that certain resorts have a "special" relationship with RCI in these cases.

I think that may indicate that the changes due to high availability are not programed in their system. or that some weeks will not be adjusted downward- perhaps as a result to get resorts to do RCI points.

I booked at Vistana Beach Club recently. For Late fall 2014
It cost me 17 TPUs. I did not want to wait to book as the Sunday check in is oceanfront and I wanted that view.
When I did a search here on our sightings, I saw the time frame was first posted with many more unit availability and the time frame I was looking at was 13-15 TPUs.

              It is a fluid system...

Yes, and particularly large developers with resorts still in developer sales.

It's been annoying doing RCI searches with the fluctuation in TPU. I don't trust RCI's system as a result because there seems no rhyme or reason.

I've been watching a few resorts that regularly fluctuate between 16-21, up and down. I suspect it's just a poorly-designed feedback-control system.

I booked a Bonnet Creek unit last Oct 2012 for June of this year for 13 TPU's.
Then I saw them creep up to the high 30's by the time April's bulk rolled around.
I was glad I booked it when I did.
I try not to play the waiting game.
If I feel it's good value I just book it cause ya never know which way it's going to go.

And don't forget the resorts that are selling points after developer sales are done or near done.

Im not sure why exactly but my RCI / WM exchanges pretty good. I also have a weeks account with RCI but the account linked to my WM is picking up some good stuff. I saw the newer Hilton Elera and thought about taking those weeks to sell.

Some of those developer portals see inventory before the regular members or it's extra inventory just for them.
Not sure which one but it pays to check all accounts when looking for something coveted like Elara or Disney or NYE in Manhattan Club.
