  • Fro VRI/ORE interested people - be aware of II exchange issues

Note: ORE = Owners Resort and Exchange, VRI = Vacation Resort International, MROP = Multi Resort Ownership Plan

If you are trying to pick an ORE week for deposting into II, be very careful. Many resorts that are normally accepted by II are not accepted by II if the week comes via ORE. Apparently this is because ORE does not have a reservation confirmation process with II for many of their resorts that normally exchange with II. (I don't think this impacts anyone who owns at a specific ORE-managed resort, schedules a week at their own resort, and tries to deposit that week.) But if you use the ORE exchange and then try to deposit into II, it can get sketchy. This problem does not occur with ORE weeks deposited into RCI.

A month ago I "deposited" a Vacation Villas at Fantasyworld week that I received with my MROP week into II. The ORE website shows VVF as depositable into II. ORE gave me the reservation number, and all the information I needed to deposit with II. I phoned II, and everything seemed fine. The week was showing on my II account and I could use it to run searches. 3 weeks later, I received a postcard from II that the "home resort" cancelled the deposit. I phoned ORE and they said the VVF weeks through them could not be deposited into II. Then they said I would have to pay a new exchange fee to get a different week. I argued the point because I received the week with the understanding that it could be deposited into II. I was told they would not charge a new exchange fee this time to switch the week, but would not waive the fee again if I scheduled a week via the online system. I was told to always verify whether a week could be deposited with II.

I asked if Peppertree Atlantic Beach Villas and/or Lagonita Lodge could be deposited into II and was told that it might not be doable. That I would have to try it and risk having the deposit cancelled and then have to pay an exchange fee to obtain a different week if I wanted a week to deposit in II.

So... if you are hoping to use ORE/VRI for II deposits, just be aware that it may not always work. The following resorts definitely can be deposited into II via ORE:

April Sound at Lake Conroe • APS
    Bear Lake Timeshare • BLC
    Bear Lake MROP • BLM
Capri by the Sea • CSE
Fishermen's Village Resort Club • FVR
    The Kimball • KBL
Eagles Nest Resort at Indian Point • LAT
Pend Oreille Shores Resort • POS
    Powder Ridge Village • PWR
    See the Sea • SEE
    Sunchase Beachfront Condominiums • SNH
    Snow Lake Lodge • SNO
Sweetwater Park City Lift Lodge • SSL
Owners Resorts & Exchange at St. George • STG
Sweetwater at The Waikiki Banyan • SWB
    Jackson Hole Towncenter • TJH
    The Kuleana Club • KUL
    Alii Kai II • ALI

I too had a problem with some of the weeks I received in the anual scheduling process. I deposited Lagonita Lodge with II and about 3 weeks later they rejected it. I called ORE and they deposited the week again, so far it seems to be okay. I also deposited Outer Banks Beach Club with II and about 3 weeks later II rejected it for a 2nd time. I called ORE and they deposited the week again and last week II removed the week from my account again. I'm waiting for ORE to get back with me. They suggested I select a different week from their inventory. I told them that any week still available in the ORE exchange system are "garbage" weeks. If no one else wants these weeks, that probably means they would most likely have very little trading power in II also. I am trying to find a contact number or email for MROP so that I can let them know how ORE is managing our units. Hopefully VRI will be able to run the system better.

Maybe if we both contact the MROP board about this, they will do something to create a way to confirm reservations with II. The problem according to ORE is that there is no way for ORE to confirm the reservation with II. I don't quite get that, but I don't seem to have any recourse.

Now to figure out how to contact the MROP board... I am super happy with my MROP weeks, other than having trouble with II exchanges. RCI does not seem to have any issues.

I just found out why II will not accept the week I received from the anual scheduling porcess at ORE (Outer Banks Beach Club II). It seems ORE gave out more weeks than they had on hand (kind of like overbooking seats on airlines). I'm waiting for a call next week from ORE to see if they can still get me a week at the same resort. So far they have only offered to re-schedule me into a resort/unit that is still available in the ORE system. The only weeks left in the ORE system are weeks no one else wanted (garbage weeks). If I deposit a garbage week into II or RCI, I can only expect to receive a garbage week.
