  • Insurance RCI vs II? Also, what about II EPlus

I see that with II e-trade, I can cancel and re-book up to 3 times for a flat fee of $49. But with RCI it looks like if you buy their insurance you can retain your TPUs but have to pay a new exchange fee each time. Is this right? What happens if I make the exchange and something better comes along?

If you bought cancel protection (or are canceling far enough in advance) then you retain your TPU, but would have to pay another exchange fee to switch.

RCI's cancel protection is almost, but not quite, worthless in its current form.

Agree. For a short period it insured the exchange fee and was worth it. Now II's e-plus is much better. But, Jacki, you can't do an ongoing search with e-plus, you're limited to online inventory.

I wish RCI would make an e-plus type option available.

As stated the current form of insurance from RCI has almost no value to me. They used to collect the insurance on my every trade when the exchange fee was reimbursed.

I was afraid of that. The problem is we very rarely go anywhere for a whole week. For 3 or 4 days, it makes no sense to pay an extra exchange fee.

Can I make an OGS with another deposit, then if it comes through switch it to the eplus?

In the old days I'd have said yes. But II has been pretty customer-unfriendly in the past few years, at least in my experience. My guess is it would be a crap-shoot at best, based on who you get on the phone.

Maybe others can be more encouraging...

I had a hell of a time with II's insurance a couple of years ago.

                  EPlus is not travel insurance.

I tried to get on II but it was very slow in loading. I was trying to see if II still offered traditional travel insurance as well as EPlus.

EPlus allows you to retrade your exchange 3 times no questions asked...different resort, different time, different unit size. No questions asked.

If you had a death in your family or an illness that prevented you from traveling this coming weekend, this would not pay for your exchange fee and maint fee reimbursement.

I know member mpizza has had to use the II travel insurance several times for illness and death and she was reimbursed each time with proper documentation.
