Harborside - exchange ??

I'm doing an ongoing search with II for a Harborside Resorts at the Atlantis, Paradise Island - covering Sept 2007 - May 2008. I also have the same search in to SFX. Travel counselors at both sites indicate that exchanges into Harborside are extremely rare as Harborside owners can rent their week out for a big profit and generally do so.

I visited the Atlantis about 8 (?) years ago, before I ever considered timesharing and Harborside was in its very early stages - the resort did not seem crowded then, but it sounds like now there is a big demand for the location resulting in low probabilities for timeshare exchange.

My questions to all members are:

Have you exchanged or know of anyone who has been able to exchange into Harborside Resorts in the Bahamas (other than internal Starwood exchanges)?

If so, what strategy, exchange company or unit deposited for exchange were used to snag this exceptional exchange opportunity.

Noelle, I exchanged into Harborside this past MLK week. I also met up with Reddiablosv who was also there on an exchange. It took me 3 years to get the date I could use. They had called me a few other times with last minute dates that I could not use more that a day of. Be prepared to be able to make the exchange within a 30 to 45 day window. From what I have seen that is usually the time frame you get. The weather when I went was so so, not that hot but did rain 1 day. Look for my review in shaggys forum or in the Caribbean forum. Now some good news, I am seeing more weeks up for exchange than in the past. This is mainly because the owners when they first buy normally return in the first 3 years there, now that they have been there so often they are exchanging more and more. The bad news is as you may know that some owners are renting there units out to try to recoup some money.

I have seen Harborside with my Marriott weeks in Sept/October for the following January/early February...weeks in May are also usually available in late fall.
So if your week that you are using to trade is 'strong enough' - has the 'required quality' - you should be seeing something soon.
Also, I have only heard of ONE person to trade into a 2BR unit - it has all been 1BRs.

Hi Noelle, in Jan. of 2005 I exchanged into a Harborside premium one bedroom unit during the third week of Jan. with a II 5 star 2 bedroom Maui week as trade. It was a week I snagged after being tipped off by a sighting on tug! In Jan of this year I traded internally via starwood with a Vistana Villages week. Scince my first trade I have frequently seen sightings posted on tug. Just don't expect a school vacation week! But you just might get lucky and find a winter week! Even though these are high demand weeks, they comand high staroption values in the starwood system. Apparantly, some owners would rather take the lower staroption value weeks. Ben

Thanks to Lawren, Artsieanige and all the big-time sighting reporters, I managed to snag a one bedroom for January 20, 2007. I could not have done it without their generous sharing of this info. So, keep checking the sightings and the II listings religiously. I rarely luck out for this caliber of resort on my own.

Link to Atlantis Hotel's specials. This is for the hotel, Beach Tower, not for the timeshare units.They have one for the month of October which must be booked by the end of September. They usually send me monthly specials.
