  • Do I need to put in an ongoing search for Orlando

for the week after Thanksgiving 2007, soon? Is this time of year tough to exchange into the 5* resorts through II? Would really like the Disney resorts but won't hold my breath for those. I own at Westgate in Las Vegas and would really like to get into another resort other than Westgate in Orlando.

I don't think there's a big rush unless you have your heart set on Disney.

One of the very slowest times of year and the easiest exchanges, whether you'd get DVC is dependant on whether you have a search going when someone deposits.
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

If you know the date which it sounds like you do. Then why not start the search now. IMO it is always best to put in the search early and request the resorts that you want the most. This will put you in the front of the line.

Also once you have 15 posts you will be able to see the Exchange Opportunities board. There you can ask to see what is available for that time frame. They will also be on the look out for the Disney resorts that you want.

With the exception of Disney, right now there is plenty of availability for the week after Thanksgiving...........2 & 3 bdrms available, in 5 * resorts.......

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

You may be able to get a nice Marriott

Thank you everyone for your replies! I would like to get in at a Disney resort, that is my preference, but realize that it may be a bit difficult. My next choice would be for the Marriott Grande Vista. Do they put all exchangers in the old part of the resort, therefore, do you have to request to be put into the newer part? Once again, thank you for all your help!

Generally, Marriott owners get priority for requests, but some people like to be in the older units closer to the main building. Once you get your confirmation, call the resort directly to place your request.

If you want Disney, place that request first. If you don't get it within a comfortable timeframe, then add the Marriotts. There are Marriotts sitting there now, so if you include those with your Disney request they will get matched right away.

What, in your opinion, would be a "comfortable time frame" for this area, time of year and these types of resorts? I'm fairly new to all of this and have no idea what time of year in Orlando is "high" season. Allthough, it sounds like this time of year may be fairly slow. Am I right? Also, am I understanding you correctly when you say to "place the request first" you are meaning not to deposit my unit at the time of request or to just ask for the Disneys first and then later on the Marriotts? Thank you Avery for your help.

When is your checkin date at your home resort? Call II to find out if they are giving any Accommodation Certificates (Bonus Weeks) for your deposit. If yes, then I would deposit it, you will get an extra week that way (bonus weeks are a separate issue, not as good as regular weeks, but great to have if you can travel on 60 days' notice). They don't give bonus weeks for 'request first.'

I don't think 'request first' will really make a difference here, unless you may not want to deposit your week if you don't get your Disney match. If that's the case, then go ahead and do a 'request first' for Disney. You can only do a 'request first' with II if your home resort check-in date is AFTER the dates you are requesting, btw.

I just realized you are looking at 2007, not 2006. Is that correct? If yes, it is too soon to see any Marriott availability, it is 2006 that is available for your dates. Go ahead and put in your Disney request. Someone else will have to let us know how far in advance Disney deposits get made, but Marriotts don't until 13 months ahead at the earliest. By putting in your off-season request very early for Disney, you increase your chances.

I am new to this board, I just went to the rci exchange opportunity board and there were no posts there. How does it work? I just joined rci, but am waiting for my timeshare purchase to finalize so I can bank my week. I want to trade into orlando next year. What is the exchange board?

You should be able to see the Ex-Ops board once you have 15 posts, or make a contribution to the site. The Ex-Ops boards are where members list availability they have seen online searching using their accounts. They're kind of a 'heads up' of good stuff we find, to help alert members when nice exchange possibilities get spotted.

Once your RCI membership is finalized, you will be able to search RCI online yourself as well, and put in an ongoing request for the resorts/dates you are looking for. Stick around here, you will learn a lot about how to maximize your new timeshare purchase.

                        Welcome to TS4ms!

If your heart is set on Disney, the last I knew they assessed a bogus $ 95 charge for travel and transportation(or some other BS). Not sure if or what they charge now. Orlando is an easy trade except for the time when schools are out. My favorite time is the second half of October, where the weather is still warm enough for the pools and the crowds are minimal. Best check the UK school break too and that week the place is full of "redcoats" and the parks are a bit more crowded. There still is the chance of a hurricane that late in the year as we found out last year, but it really only wiped out a day which we used to get some free tickets on a timeshare tour.

                            Avery,

thank you, I have an rci membership number, but since I don't have a week deposited I can't see what is available. I have no patience waiting.

That is a major drawback of RCI. Well a few more posts and you will be able to see our Ex-Ops; if you see something you like you can call RCI and try to get it. We don't usually post much in Orlando, though, since it is a relatively easy trade except over school holidays. If there's something specific you would like us to look for, put a post in the sticky at the top of the Ex-Ops board and we will post if we find it.
