What does it typically cost to get shot there straight from Miami?

Can they shoot you there from Tampa?

Is this a place you need a passport and stuff like that?

      JLB,

After January 1, 2007, you will probably need a passport for re-entry back into the US from anywhere.

A reminder to everyone, if you are planning to travel overseas after January 1, 2007, you need to take a valid US passport.

I just recently renewed mine (it was 20 years old) and did not ask to expedite it. It took about 3 to 4 weeks and I received my new passport.

Now you're taking all the fun out of it. I don't know how people who have to fly all the time put up with it.

        Can't we just drive?

I'm not so convinced that the lack of great trades is the fault of RCI manipulation rather than an awakening and self fulfilling thought that the best weeks will be used, privately rented or direct exchanged rather than placed with the big traders. Anyone who has paid any attention to the various timeshare boards over the past couple years would be foolish to risk a great trader in a week for week trade knowing theres a good chance they will get far less value out. Unless they feel they can beat the system why take the risk?

The manipulation that led to this isn't rentals or points but the twenty year record of II/RCI failing to return fair value for top deposits while catering to the lower value (but much higher volume = exchange $$) depositors. The free exchange of information via these sites has exposed that basic flaw and deposits of the best times aren't being made anymore. If RCI/II wants those units back they have to do a better job of ensuring an equal trade for all not just trade ups for the middle, massive volume customers.
I tend to agree with you with the caveat being that RCI continues to state that only 10% of the total membership conducts their exchange business via the website.

Rentals and owner use make sense, even for the non-timeshare savy. It is almost too logical. Maybe why it causes my spidey senses to tingle when the weeks come and go as they are reportedly doing on this bulk spacebank.

Yes I finally got my Florida HGVC exchange. Wrong coast but perfectly acceptable exchange. I will not give my Labor Day Week to RCI again until I hear they have changed their ways. I can rent for 1.5 to two times my MFs or go there myself. Labor Day week is still a BIG holiday here in the northeast.

and there are whispers about in-house VRI/ORE exchanges at no/lo fee that still need to be explored as information comes out.

I found air fare from Miami for $400.

            Does that sound about right?

Cayman Air will put you in the direct slingshot from Tampa.

We flew NY to GCM via Miami for Easter a couple few years back for RT $450. If you keep an eye out you should find something decent. CAMachinist is the resident airfare guy.

AA is the major non-stop out of Miami.

OH and BTW it is a GORGEOUS, clean, safe island. My favorite exchange out of all of them.

The only thing not giving me the shakes about not having a deposit to grab a 2008 week is that we will in all probability NOT have a full week off for Easter that year.

Why? Does Easter fall in the middle of the week that year?

Our public schools here in NY try to encompass both Passover and Easter for one break. That works well usually, but when it doesn't we get 2 half week breaks.

2008 is similar to 2005 in that Passover and Easter are nearly a calendar month apart. The last time that happened we got 2 half-weeks...that doesn't work well with "weeks" exchanges.

I missed all the excitement today. Just got back to find I can see President's week '08 with my strong trader (1 bedroom), but only mid-April on with my weaker one..

eta: I put 4/19 on hold. Looks like the entire week is Passover, I may gamble on the kids being off the whole time... just a one bedroom, but....

When is the best time to go there, weather wise? I am half tempted to test the Carribean waters myself.

Winter is most popular. We were there in March several years ago and it was gorgeous. August/September/October is hurricane season. November through April probably best window, some might say December through March.

The two-bedroom for 1/19/08 is gone this morning. One of you got it for me as a gift, right!

I don't normally search the Caribbean. For 10 weeks starting 12/28/07 I am seeing 22 resorts. Is that typical?

For the same ten weeks there still were a lot of Moritts, but I did not pay attention to the specific weeks. ecept for the 1/19, which is gone.

Okey dokey. Sounds a lot like SW Florida . . . just because something is available . . .
