  • Mexico 1/08 advice request

Thinking about a Mexico vacation for jan. 2008. Here are my choices from an online RCI search. My dates were limited thus the short list.

Any feedback for your choice/experience would be appreciated.

    Acapulco (mayan/grand mayan)
    Nuevo Vallarta (grand mayan)
    Mazatlan,Sinaloa (mayan)
    Puerto Penasco (mayan)

    Thanks!

I like the Nuevo Vallarta (grand mayan) most from your list. Acapulco (grand mayan) Is nice are there are some nice restaurants that you can cab from there to. I liked the pool more in NV and the service there as well. I noticed you did not pick Grand Mayan in Rivera Maya. That is the newest resort in the chain right now untill the Cabo one is compleated. RM has a neat pool as well.

The MP's are nice, but be aware that they have a history of downgrading exchanges thru RCI- I'm surprised Frank didn't mention it from his experience.

I have been to Acapulco Mayan - BEAUTIFUL PLACE - but I recommend you speak a bit of Spanish - do NOT leave the resort, Acapulco is a dangerous place. The restaurants at the resort are priced similar to NYC.

I do not know the Mayan in Mazatlan but Mazatlan is a GREAT destination!

True but it has not been happening lately. It happens more so on holiday weeks.

We loved the MP Acapulco and we are confirmed again at the Grand Mayan for January 08. The weather and resort were both fantastic when we were there January 06 and we get to go again since the 1-5 rule was waived.

I haven't been there for many years, but didn't feel unsafe way back when. Of course, it's very conceivable things have changed. For future reference, how is it dangerous? What about safety in Cancun and other areas?

I'm thinking I'll go with Frank's suggestion for The Grand Mayan Nuevo Vallarta (#7486),since a few folks here and others have me a little leary about Acapulco... I'm holding out for a one bedroom for a while, since I'm only seeing hotel room accomodations. Anyone know what these hotel rooms are like at this joint? The website doesn't seem to show these.

                  Thanks!

JWC has some great Pictures of the place, Email or PM him. He might take a while to get back to you as he is away working. BTW from what I can tell all the Grand Mayan from all the areas are very much alike. The floor plans seen to be the same. I have noticed that some of the out door pools are different in shapes. If your unit has an out door pool and Kitchen then it will not have a Jacuzzi hot tub in the room. If you have the Jacuzzi then you will not have the outdoor pool or Kitchen.

I also stayed at the GM, Nueva Vallarta and loved it...because of the suspended 1 in 5 rule, I will be going to Riviera Maya & Acapolco GM within the next 15 months.
Looking forward to seeing them all.
The only drawback to accepting the lock-off studio/hotel room is that there is NO kitchen facilities. No mini-refrigerator or sink or microwave.
As Frank said it does have a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom but no private plunge pool on the balcony.
                        I would hold out for a 1BR or even better - a 2BR.

Hi Bill, I work for RCI. I can tell you for sure, since Ive been to 3 of the 4 places you were offered that the Grand Mayan is the way to go. The Neuvo Vallarta location is incredable. 2nd largest pool in Latin America. Very new resort. definately a good fit......just came back from there. Try to get a 1 bedroom though or bigger, the h/2/2 units arent the greatest.....no private plunge pool, just small jacuzzi. Nothing wrong with the others, but PV and the GM is the way to go, you wont be dissappointed.

                          Good luck!!

I agree with Big Frank on the Grand Mayan Nuevo Vallarta. We stayed there last April for 2 weeks on an exchange through SFX. We had a 1BR ocean view unit in the top floor. It was awesome. We have also stayed at the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya which was outstanding as well. The Grand Mayans are by far the best resorts we have stayed at in our 20 years of timesharing.

We have only been TSing for 6 years but my DH says the same thing - nicest resort we have ever been to.
