  • 18 minute II hold

Does anyone know how this 18 minute hold works when booking a unit online? Once you click the exchange button the 18 minute clock starts. Unfortunately there's no cancel button after that point to immediately return the week back into the exchange pool.

I was browsing with a regular deposit and clicked exchange by accident. I wanted to use an AC instead to confirm the week. I've been checking constantly but the week I saw hasn't come back into the exchange pool yet and it's been over an hour. While I was waiting I even did a test and took serveral other weeks out of circulation by clicking exchange and none of those has re-appeared either.

Are all these weeks returned at once in a batch job? I started a search and hopefully I'll get the week during the night. It's a poor design of II's part if they let someone lock up several weeks just by clicking the exchange button.

It can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to reappear. Unfortunately II was closed while this happened, b/c usually a VC can take care of it for you if you explain what happened. Worse yet, I once had a week snatched while I was putting in my credit card, and was told that the 18 minutes didn't really mean anything in terms of exclusivity since the system allows the same message to be seen by two people who click on the week at the same time

For future reference, you are better off confirming with the week you searched with, then switching over the phone in the morning.

Next time I'll definitely confirm and then call II to fix it the next morning. Because I wanted to use an AC I didn't know if I'd have an issue getting it changed. What's that saying? Confirm first and ask questions later?

I have clicked on exchange before when just playing around and the week normally came back a little while later. The weeks I clicked on last night after midnight had not re-appeared as of 6am. I checked again at 8am and the week I wanted was back so I was extra careful this time to select the right deposit before I clicked exchange.

Norm, I'm glad you got the week you wanted, whew! Yes, II is confirm first and ask questions later, for sure. The 24 hour cancellation policy allows for that (except within a 7 day window, but I'll bet they'd still allow you to switch the confirmation to a different week even if checkin is within 7 days).

If you cancel within 24 hours, is there any exchange fee or any impact on your deposit strength (does it revert back to the original deposit date, or is it like making a new deposit)?

It shouldn't have an impact on trade power, but you have to make sure the VG reinstates any previous ongoing searches retroactively (sometimes tricky). Exchange fee is refunded.
