  • RCI comment card scores rising

As predicted the new scale on RCI comment cards that went into effect in September is producing higher scores.

Looking at the averages for the North American market for the five categories that go into award status, the scores are:
(October average / 12 month average / increase)

    Check in/out - 4.6 / 4.3 increase 0.3
    Resort Hospitality - 4.5 / 4.2 increase 0.3
    Resort Maintenance - 4.4 / 4.1 increase 0.3
    Unit Maintenace - 4.2 / 3.9 increase 0.3
    Unit Housekeeping - 4.3 / 4.1 increase 0.2

The 12 month average includes two months on the new scale and ten on the old one.

In the last twelve months, RCI received 374,264 comment cards back on the 968,458 exchanges that were made in the North American market.

THE 374,264 IS PROBABLY 90% OF THE ACTUAL EXCHANGES, THE REMAINING OF THE "EXCHANGES" IS PROBABLY RENTALS.

P.S. The WORDING on the comment cards might prove interesting. The wording is probably similar to political polls whose results are predetermined by the wording of the senders. With RCI's history of "honesty and integrity, can we REALLY believe ANY information they release?

The comment cards previously had a term for each number. Now they have a range of 1 to 5 with terms only for the low (very dissatisfied) and high (very satisfied) ends. On the old scale ''very satisfied'' corresponded to 4 rather than 5. When they made the change, they predicted a rise in the numbers and I posted that I agreed with that assessment. At the same time the qualifying numbers for GC and SC also rose.

GC and SC? What is your assessment of those numbers with your prediction - stable? Do you know how many members that comprise the 968,458 exchanges? How many members are there in RCI?

          And?

So, Steve, what do you think this actually means for the owner or exchanger?

Does a rising tide float all boats equally, or do some resorts come out better with this new evaluation?

Seems to me that RCI, consciously or unconsciously, makes their resort exchanges look better, or may end up promoting some Silver Crown resorts to Gold Crown and "Hospitality" resorts to Silver Crown, up the road.

Do you think this is better for (1) owners, (2) exchangers or (3) another RCI "sneaky trick"? Or, does it really matter?

SC is Silver Crown and GC is Gold Crown. RCI does not specifically state that the exchange number is all members, but do seem to imply it. I do not have the RCI membeship numbers, but they may be on the RCI website.

Some resorts will likely do better than others. The resort whose monthly report I have access to scored higher increases in all categories than the national average, for example, between the 12 month average and the October average.

How this will impact the number of SC and GC resorts remains to be seen. At the time they made the comment card changes, RCI also raised the qualifying numbers for award status. I cannot at the moment put my hands on the old numbers to compare with the new and see if the actual score increase is higher or lower than the increase in the qualification levels. If they increased by 0.3, it would seem to make little difference.

Carolinian, I noted your advice on TUG on comment cards. I have been on the board for a year and have not heard anything about them. Ironically, I asked to see those yesterday, about four hours before your post!

I was wondering how many owners disregard the comment cards? Twin Rivers is with II and we are trying to dual affiliate with RCI. What a hassle Janie Beall with Interval is creating for us, refusing our request of the copy of the current contract. We need to see the wording. The management company is pretty sure our date for cancellation for automatic renewal is January 1st. The delay is exasperating. I am sending her a certified letter canceling the current contract, return receipt requested. Her office is in Golden. I hope everything is not a battle like this has been. When the assistant manager at our management company talked of her yesterday, he used the word slimy. Pretty strong language for Sean to use. I guess Lionsgate Pines was in the process of dual affiliation and she stalled and stalled getting the contract to the managment company, then when they really started pushing, she said, "it is already renewed and automatically renewed nine months before the contract end date." So she very purposely did that. It is funny the opinion you get of an exchange company when you are actually forced into working with them.

If she is the norm for a district representative and if II feels the need to hire people like her to deal with HOA boards, then I feel sure that II will not be my preferred trading company anymore. Further, I will make sure everyone knows of ALL choices for exchange companies from now on, starting with the next newsletter. Our exclusive contract will be over soon and our owners are going to get options every single month. DAE is going to get a lot of business from us, that is for sure. Interval is going to lose big time in this one because I will play hardball with them.

Does anyone know a name above Janie Beall? I need to complain to II about the treatment we are getting from her.
