  • Random thoughts about RCI and weeks exchanging

I am looking with a strong trader deposited 10 months out for the timeframe from present to Jan 2009.

Point: Either resort spacebanks have changed and don't deposit both sides of the lock-offs anymore or RCI is breaking them up themselves. See my post re: Sunterra Resorts on the Ridge on Sedona Golf Course. I stayed in a 2 BDRM there in April 2006. Haven't seen any 2 BDRM deposits for that one in eons.http://www.timeshareforums.com/forum...ad.php?t=25225

Point: I haven't seen ANY Aruba deposits. Not even in summer.

Point: I don't see much caribbean at any time of the year other than DR-AIs.

    Point: Very few SCal coastals.

Point: If you don't want Daytona you aren't staying on the beach in Florida in the first quarter of 2007 or 2008.

Point: I am pulling marginal if any Hawaiian resorts.

Point: 2008 Eastcoast is non-existant for summer.

I don't know what is going on here. Obviously they aren't afraid of the current lawsuit OR deposits will come flying in the door now as people pay their MFs for 2007.

RCI maintains that only 10% of their membership uses on-line access. Where is the other 90%???

The lawsuit is going NOWHERE! Have details if you want but short on time now. I personally will never deposit any of my 12 weeks in RCI again as, have you have so aptly stated, NOTHING IS AVAILABLE!

REFERENCE the 10% online: RCI acknowledges (or at least their reps do) that the internet is worthless. The people that get what they are wanting, according to RCI, call - spent money in advance - and wait . . . and wait.

I understand about the east coast. I had a search (by phone) for 1 1/2 years with NOTHING happening. I am in II through Sunterra Sun Options - looked in II and found EXACTLY what I wanted.

Last week I looked for coastal Maine and central NH ---nothing from June 2007 thru 9-09-2007. A few years ago I would have had 15-20 choices. I think I may have made my last RCI deposit.

Yikes! I have two summer '07 weeks that usually are tiger traders with RCI, and I have paid maint fees but haven't deposited yet. What to do, what to do? I don't want to waste them if I won't be able to find anything good for an exchange. Maybe I should try to rent them out. Hmmm...

Btw, is this phenomenon just with RCI Weeks, or is it also really bad in RCI Points too? I'm just wondering if RCI is trying to kill Weeks by putting all deposits in Points or on rental websites and their other venues. Hmmm???

If you are looking for Hawaii, the place to go is www.htse.net , not RCI.

How do they compare with SFX as far as availability? I don't get too concerned over $$$ difference in pricing for a week as long as I can get what I want!

Think about where you want to go and try working with an independent that specializes in that area.

As for points I don't know. We will have to hope someone chimes in.

The first 20 weeks of 2007 only shows:

The Makai Club at Princeville (#1254)

                  Check-in Date Range - 02/16/2007 - 02/16/2007

I get nothing for the second search:

                  HAWAII
                  Check-in Date(s) 06/09/2007 - 08/18/2007

                  Check-in Date(s) 08/18/2007 - 10/27/2007

and nothing for the third either:

                  HAWAII
                  Check-in Date(s) 11/03/2007 - 01/12/2008

Aye, there's the rub! Mexico is where I like to go! And RCI seems to be the only specialist there. And boy do I hate to pay RCI's $199 exchange fee for Mexico as an "international" destination. Why is Canada domestic but not Mexico, I want to know. Well, I guess it's another question for "Madge" OY.

Look into Trading Places. They do quite a bit in Mexico. International exchange fee is $169.

                          Lawren,

I just posted all the Hawaii weeks from now up to Nov 1,2007 on the EX-OPS section.

These are only the Points resorts as you would see all the other Weeks resorts with your trader. There is availability pretty much the whole year with the exception of July and only 1 week in June. I see pretty much all the Pahio resorts, including Shearwater, and the Makai Club resorts.

Obviously, the points requirements are higher for the prime early months of 2007 but you can get there. Personally, I wouldn't use 119K points plus the exchange fee to get there. Having said that, if my Points cost $.005 per point, then that's still not a bad price relative to what MFs are for some of those same resorts.

I get a few more with a one bedroom PAHIO @ Bali Hai

This is the first 20 weeks of the year with PAHIO one bedroom. It looks pretty dreary, but there have been no huge bulk banks recently. I will watch this evening and see if anything more shows up. Certainly within the next week, there should be many, many more. Sometimes I have hundreds to choose from in Hawaii.

Oh, lordy, this is so deeply depressing as I'm in the process of buying a week that I thought would be a strong trader in RCI.

Oh well, fortunately it's in a place we'll probably return to many times over the years.
