  • Anaheim or Socal in April 2007 - How tough an exchange is it?

I have a colleague looking to go after spring break - mid-april for a couple weeks in a 2BR. How tough a trade is that? I checked with a few exchange companies today and there doesn't seem to be a lot of inventory? Should I suggest starting a search first or do you think more will show up during the flexchange / 60 day last minute availabiltiy period?

Is that a slow or busy time? I figure spring break will be busy but mid April should be ok because spring break should be over

April is a tough trade as schoolbreaks go from March thru April.

Which exchange company is your colleague looking with? What is he/she trading?

There is some last minute stuff but not the best and not usually coastal.

Check RCI's Extra Vacations. Those that don't rent will likely pop up for RCI exchange and last minute rental from 1 month to the start date.

She's using a Mexico Mayan Sea Garden's unit so she's searching through RCI.

They want to go to Disney. Based on the responses, sounds like Orlando might be a better bet. And I would think easier since everyone says Olando is "overrbuilt". if she likely to have better luck looking now or waiting for something in the Last Call section.

What about availability in II's 60 day window? What's the chance of getting a 2BR in Orlando then? She might be able to get access to someone else that has an AC.

I think So Cal has to be one of the hardest trades. Anybody have good luck with that. Which trading company did you use?

            Oh boy...
RCI isn't really kind to Mexico resorts re: trade value.

With a very strong trader I only see this for April 2007.

You may want to check with PSE for her. Dolphins Cove is a sister resort...maybe PSE has an in-house week stashed somewhere for 2007?

Otherwise, with RCI, Orlando is much more a reality for a Mexico trader and even at that 2007 would be tight.ETA with a weak week I don't see any availability at the top 10 RCI resorts for April in 2 BDRM or higher.

I'd say it is EV or nothing for 2007.

It has gotten harder since the GPP 1-in-4 block went in but SCal is very possible with RCI if you look 18 to 24 months out.

Lawren, when you say it's harder, do you mean that it's harder to get a week other than GPP? I thought it would be easier to trade into GPP for those who haven't been since the 1 in 4 rule should mean there would be less demand for GPP?

Lang the prime summer weeks aren't being deposited for the GPP resorts until the owners get first crack; if at all. I see very little past mid-June until after mid- August at 18months out.

I am seeing the VRI resorts but that may be "my" owner preference at work.

I'd rent her our Dolphin's Cove week but we've already rented or used our weeks.

On further discussion with my colleague, they've switched their thinking to Florida now as they don't feel April in socal will be warm enough to their liking . I've done some checking with our weeks and don't see a lot of 2BR availability for Orlando during April, even after Easter. Availability doesn't seem to "open up" again dramatically until late April/early May. I was thinking she might have better luck picking up something last minute there. Am I wrong?

There is some availability for 2007 GPP through HTSE right now. They are 1BRs in June, late Aug and Labour Day. Pretty decent weeks in my mind. I'll post them on the HTSE ex-ops

There is always PSE bonus time but as you know that is 14 days in advance.

Last Minute will be all she can get at this point. Is she new to the game of exchanging?

I posted a bulk on Dolphins Cove for 2008 early this morning. For those who plan ahead.

They've owned their TS for a number of years but don't have regular internet access. They use RCI guides exclusively. They usually plan and deposit a long time in advance so haven't really had too much problems as they've typically exchanged back into Mexico. I've been trying to help her expand her understanding. This is a last minute, "let's go someplace" decision that I've kinda egged on so I'm feeling a bit obligated to help out since I'm always talking about how there's always a good deal out there somewhere. I wouldn't have know that until I learned how to optimize what you have through TS4Ms and TUG

I don't think that you are wrong except for the weather. April, May and June are the months we would never go on vacation in southern CA on the coast. These are the months we would never trade into our timeshare either.

However, you just don't know anymore because last year, May and June were beautiful months, while normally May is known for "May gray" and June is known for "June Gloom".

Weather in southern CA is as unpredictable as the rest of the country is today.
