  • Redweek offering free direct exchanges until March 1

I think this is a great idea to get traffic up on the site. I'm going to list a bunch of weeks for direct exchange.

Boca, I am curious to see what you have to offer and we may start doing direct exchanges too. I wished this would start taking off on this forum but you need not only the resort but the exact time period too and that is what is hard. I am all for it and certainly amongst friends or people we can trust.

This is why exchange companies have the edge over us, especially RCI because they have such a large inventory. They have, if they are not renting our deposits out. I don't know the answer to that but I would like to know.

Not necessary, especially if you have floating week and mini system. Owner always get more inventories, and owner can usually make reservation over 1 year or in FF's case 10 month if not home resort. If they do that, it is more reliable than RCI. Otherwise, RCI/II will be better. It is harder to make commitment over a year for someone though, and make exchange happy for the both sides.

Jya-Ning, you are right so it shouldn't be so hard to do direct exchanges with each other here if you own floating units. They definitely have their advantages over fixed weeks because we have to match the exact date too as well as the resort. It should be easier to do than I thought it was.

        Let's try it!

          A year ahead?

I don't even know where I want to go a year ahead so how do I know if someone has something I want?

I probobly don't plan far enough out to effectively direct exchange unless someone has a points system I don't already own.

            BB,

I'm interested in seeing what will be listed. Normally, I don't see too many units listed for exchange. Thanks for the info.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I think we should try it here! Would it be hard to start another forum for this purpose? I have to floating weeks in Mexican resorts that might be of interest to someone, especially since RCI's exchange fee to Mexico is "international" and now a buck shy of 200 bucks!

FYI, I own junior suites floating year-round except for 4 holiday weeks, one at Cozumel Palace (AI but very reasonable because I own there) and Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay in Mazatlan (just bought this resale, as I stayed there early last month and fell in love with it).

Let's make a deal! (Hey, that could be the title for a new TS4Ms forum!)

Just in case......I'm looking for 'Sloane Gardens' London, for Sept.08. I have a few decent timeshares that I could trade.

I'm looking for a nice large one br in Tuscany, Umbria or thereabouts in Italy for June 2008. Let's make a deal!

Then you probably will be good by looking at exchange opportunity or sighting, and try to grab opportunity there. However, you may still be very good in direct exchange as long as you know it is very likely that someone has to arrange their own travel plan, and it may not have any chance to get inventory if you call say in 3 week before travel day and you may more or less has to do some work in your side.

It is in the area of direct exchange that Point systems have the strongest advantage over weeks resorts. That's because it is possible to offer any size, any available date and any resort within the system.

Since I own a lot of Bluegreen, Fairfield and WorldMark points, I can offer an exchange to any of those resorts for any available date. I can ask for anything I want feeling confident that I have a very wide basket for exchange.

If I go one step further and take requests from other owners, I am an exchange company.

I could very easily create an exchange company. But, I'm not sure if I could make money doing it.

You know, better yet, we could make our own inventory system so that way trades can be done more easily and with more people involved. This would take programming, coordination, and time but I can see it working if we have enough people participating. It would be fun!

I think it would be awesome ...

... but I'm not real sure how the whole thing works. I mean, we own floating weeks too, but we usually call and get the week we want. With direct exchange, do you just post the resort and, if someone wants it, you call and obtain that week for them? Then they do the same, in return, for you at their resort?

We have had great luck doing direct trades. Just emailing owners at the resorts we are interested in and letting them know what we own - much cheaper than paying trade fee's. Is there a spot on this forum that people list where they own?? I use the one on TUG. Comes in handy when looking for specific resorts.

Free Direct Exchanges on RedWeek.com Until March 18, 2007

                              RedWeek.com

Free Direct Exchanges on RedWeek.com Until March 18, 2007

We are waiving all membership and exchange posting fees until March 18, 2007 (extended - formerly March 1), to help you find a direct exchange partner free of charge.

To facilitate your exchange, just take the following steps:

                              Post your Exchange Offering
Browse RedWeek.com to find your resort, select "Add a posting to this resort" from the menu on the right-hand side, select EXCHANGE, then fill in the details of what you own and what you'd like to exchange for.

                              Browse for Exchange Partners
Once you have posted your own exchange offering, you can browse or search exchange postings to see if another owner has posted the week you want. Just contact that owner directly through the posting to inquire about a trade.

                              Sign up for Notification
If you can't find an exchange posting that you are interested in, you can sign up to be notified as new exchange postings become available. Just locate a resort that interests you, and click the "Sign up to be notified" link from the right-hand menu on the resort's information page. You can choose to be notified about new exchange postings at that particular resort, or any resort in the same city or wider region.

                              Important Things to Know
Free exchange postings will only run through March 18, 2007, though we may choose to extend this promotion.
You must be legally able to transfer the use of the week that you post. Check with the resort for any restrictions that apply to you.
You must not have this week banked with an exchange company already. However, posting your exchange on RedWeek.com is not the same as banking with an exchange company. You are free to remove your posting from RedWeek.com at any time.
The free exchange promotion does not include "Timeshare for Exchange Wanted" postings in the RedWish section, nor does it apply to rental or resale postings. This promotion ONLY applies to actual EXCHANGE postings on the resort pages.
You can contact the owners of other exchange postings for free, only after you have added your own exchange posting. Otherwise, you must have a membership to make contact. Membership is still required to contact rental postings, sale postings, and RedWishes.
