  • Question about RCI ongoing search

I've just set up my first ongoing search at RCI. It's for one certain resort, one certain week. I would also like to search for that same resort for a DIFFERENT week.

Is there any way to have one search cover both weeks without paying a second ongoing search fee?

I guess I could set it up to start with the first day of the first week and end with the first day of the second week (they're about six weeks apart), but is there any penalty at RCI for turning down a requested week? No, right? I will have 24 hours to cancel a match?

    Wack,
That's one search as far as I'm concerned, one week, one search fee. I've done it that way too, one 'search' looking for an entire summer someplace, (say HHI) and then a mini search with same week , looking for a certain week at Smugglers for example.

No penalty to turn down, just watch the account, daily - sometimes they confirm a match and don't call, ( even when you left instructions that they must call) then the letter comes in the mail... of course you can still cancel it then (I have) but the down side is your week had stopped seaching during that confirmation time.

You will need to do it all within one window, as you suggested, unless you place the search on the phone with a VG, in which case you can ask for as many different searches as you like without constraint on timeframe, etc. If you do it on the phone, it is still the same search fee (all searches against one deposit are one fee), BUT you won't be able to search with the week online.

I recommend you do it the way you suggested. If a week is found it will be placed on hold in your account. If you don't confirm it within a day or two it will be released, not confirmed. Perhaps it works differently if you place the search by phone. The only thng I'm not sure about, and maybe Lawren can help, is that if you release a resort from a "regional" search, you won't get matched to that resort again unless you reenter the search. Not sure how they handle it if you reject the specific resort you asked for, but for a different date.

I'm not sure if I follow the responses to the question. However, I am doing just what I think you want to do. I have a week in July for next summer in Va. I want the week before or the week after on HHI. I was not able to set that search up online, however a VG was able to do it for me. So, if either week comes through, it's fine if confirmed without me knowing since I also requested only the resorts I want.

I take it this isn't a search that you can work with online, else this would be obvious. Each ongoing search with RCI actually allows you to "fish" three ways at the same time: first choice destination, second choice destination, and search by specific resort ID. So you could accomplish your goal several ways, including your original idea to extend the search period to cover both of your target weeks. The only caveat for the resort ID search is that you may end up auto-confirming a week you don't want, but a phone call to RCI will reverse that.

Okay, another question. I did a search here and did not see this question posed.

I have an RCI ongoing search for three rare resorts. I used a summer Nantucket, 2008, for this, red week.

How do I check for my status ? Will it appear in the "Alerts" section when I log in or do I have to check daily in the "My Account" section to see if anything is on hold.

This will probably take years if it ever happens: I requested: Borgia in Tuscany, Sanctum in London and Westin St. John (I used to own there).
If it ever happens, I'll be pleasantly stunned, however, I did get a 2 bedroom at the Crane with a blue week, so, in the words of Judy Tenuti, "it could happen !".

            Thanks.

You have to check you account on-line each day. Assuming you have specific check-in dates or date ranges to go along with the specific resorts, RCI will CONFIRM if you get a match. It would not be in the "On Hold" section but in the "Confirmed" section.

Stranger things have happened and you have gotten lucky before.

No it will continue to match up, over and over and over again...
