  • When checking into a Marriott on a trade...

How does it work with the names on a reservation? We are booked at Shadow Ridge through an II Trade, and the week starts on a Friday but now we may not arrive until Saturday, but my Dad may arrive that Friday. Can I put his name on the reservation? Do I do this through II or Marriott? TIA!

If you have someone else check in besides you (since it's a II trade), you'll have to purchase a guest certificate from II for $39.00.

Call Shadow Ridge and tell them to put your dad's name on the reservation and tell them he will be checking in Friday and you are coming Saturday.

Thank you, I am hoping to avoid an extra fee since we will be there, so I'll try that first and worst case get the guest certificate. Thanks!

This is true and I do it if I am not going on the exchange.

                  Just call and add him

It's rather straight forward transaction. You are adding a party, not making a substitution. Call the reservation desk and indicate you want to add him because he's checking in before you. I have done this with other Marriotts all over the phone. Don't add a lot of explanations. Just request it and have your reservation numbers handy. You also have to be close to the check in date (usually within 2-3 weeks) for them to have the reservation in their system.

I tried calling twice today, and both times I would select the Interval/Exchange option and then it would be busy...I think their phone system is messed up. I will wait as suggested until closer to check in. Thanks to all!

You should be calling the resort directly 10 days before check-in.
                      Not II.

Just say you would like to add John Smith to the reservation as he will be arriving before you.
They do not need to know you aren't coming until the next day...

Ok, perfect, thanks so much. We did this at Hilton Grand Vacation club before in case my Mom got there first, so I am glad this won't be an issue.

I do that all the time, since I am never sure if I or my relatives will be arriving the resort first. I usually call up on the date, and tell them my relative may be checking in before me. I give the receptionist my relative's name. I do that with Marriott and Fairfield all the time, and never experienced any problem at all. I really don't see any reason why a guest certificate need to be purchased, since I am still going to be using the resorts, along with my relatives/ friends.

We've done this many times for our renters, after adding the primary name to the reservation. When blocking the rooms, the resort calls me and I verbally give them the information, then fax a follow-up with the names and preferences, requesting a confirmation. Upon receipt, I scan/fax this document to the renter, which they can then present upon check-in (whoever checks in first). Our resort (NCV) is very accommodating in this regard.

Edited to add, that, on an intra-resort exchange through II, we added the names of some friends (not family) who were arriving prior to us, which would be more in line with what is being queried here. No problems.
