  • Clueless on Flexchange

I am new to timeshare and would like to join II to deposit a Christmas week I just found out I will not be able to use this year. Since it is less than 60 days (barely) away, I understand I will only be allowed to deposit in the "flexchange" program. I don't really understand the 60 day rule...

With this program, do I have to make another reservation using the deposited week within 60 days of making the deposit...or does this mean I may use it any time as long as I am making the reservation 60 days or less from my desired check-in?

Thanks in advance for your help!

The deposit will be good for two years from the date of the reserved week (ie: until Christmas 2009). You can reserve anytime from now through then, BUT you can only search and reserve a week 59 days or less from the date you are looking.

To clarify a bit: Flexchange is the period 59 days from the date of check-in. Late deposits (such as yours) are only good for last minute reservations during Flexchange.

One more thing- since during Flexchange most units can pull most other units if they are available, if you have a lockoff unit you should lock-out and deposit each side separately, because in Flexchange even a studio can pull a 2 BR if one becomes available, so there is no benefit to depositing the entire 2BR unit (thus, a split 2 BR can pull 2 nice Flexchange vacation weeks). I don't know what/where you own, but just in case this applies I wanted to make sure you were aware of that.

The bad news is that you get what's left 59 days from occupancy. The good news is that there are others making lake deposits and still others making late cancellations, so there are some great opportunities showing up from time to time in the flexchange period. What you really need to do, deskclerk, is ask more questions so that you can see our sightings when you reach 15 posts. II sightings do include many great flexchange sightings so it makes getting a better flexchange exchange a lot easier.

Thanks for the info! That definitely clears up some confusion. As a matter of fact, my unit is a 2BR lockout so the two-week exchange info is very interesting. If I am already reserved for the full 2BR unit, however, can I still deposit it as two units? I am at Gatlinburg Town Square in Gatlinburg, TN (I believe it is a Summerbay resort) Thanks Again!

I am not an expert in this resort, but I know, at least for Marriott, you need to request the unit be locked off and get two separate reservation numbers (for Marriott this is done through Marriott). You can then deposit either or both halves.

Some resorts/systems only allow locking off at the time of reservation, so you will have to call your resort and see if that option is still available to you.
