  • What has been your most difficult exchange....

I was wondering what areas people have found extremely difficult to exchange into. Some we know of, and have discussed before, other areas don't really get a lot of press, but seem to be almost impossible to exchange into.

Some that I have found to be very rare in II are Newport, CT, Outer Banks, San Fransisco, New York, in the summer. Whistler, Park City, New Mexico, So Florida, New York, and the Caribbean, in the winter.

Most of these I look for on a daily basis, and find the availability to be null, outside of flexchange. Even then, some just don't show up.

My sister and her husband, fairly new timeshare owners and uanware of how exchanges really work, have requested The Suites at Fishermans' Wharf in San Francisco. They will only accept this resort, in the early fall. I think this is going to be a very hard exchange...

I got an exchange through SFX for Napa in late June 2006. I didn't want Riverpointe and I didn't want to be up in Windsor so at first it seemed like I would not be getting an exchange. But after some persistent work by SFX I ended up in a beautiful B & B at the north end of the city of Napa with a pool and wine tasting every evening, within walking distance of a fine restaurant. The B & B owners occasionally trade a week at their B & B for units in San Francisco when they want a quick break. They had also traded for some units in Europe in past years. We had a great time and I have been a big SFX fan ever since.

I appear to be having a great deal of trouble finding something nice is SW Florida for April... I have never waited this long for an exchange, considering I use almost every exchange company imaginable... I did have one match, but threw it back hoping for something better, silly girl that I may be.

I know that Whistler and Park City during ski season are also tough trades, except for a couple of sub-par RCI resorts in Park City, and the last minute exceptions in II.

My most difficult exchange never happened. SW Florida or some choice caribbean for week 13 of 2007. I had over 30 resorts listed.

I ended up at HGVC S Beach as nothing ever matched with RCI.

It seems that So Florida is an extremely difficult exchange to make both in II, and RCI, as well. Don't think it's any better with the smaller companies, either. I know I never see anything in DAE.

I think the SW Florida winter weeks go to on going searches and never make it to the on line viewing. We've gotten Key West in the winter with on going search...it wasn't the resort or location we wanted, but it was 2 bedroom and Key West during the weeks of winter we wanted. It did take about 7 months through Interval...but we did get it.

We've also gotten Key West through RCI. But that was years ago and I doubt we'd ever see it now.

Perhaps this goes without saying (as I'm relatively new here), but I sure have had a hard time getting into Hawaii through SFX. The only restraint I've put on my search other than a couple of months availability is that I don't really want to go the Big Island -- yet. Lost my bonus week, still waiting to get it through my deposited week. If it doesn't happen, I might lose my enthusiasm for SFX.

If you are willing to take a one bedroom on another island, you should do ok. There is more 2 bedroom inventory on the Big Island than the others. But I would also add my enthusiasm for the Big Island, I love it there!

I am having a hard time getting something in the Coastal Carolinas or Virginia (Williamsburg) - that I want from June 27, 2008 thru August 3, 2008. Have a search in at SFX that has not pulled anything because I have limited it to certain resorts and certain weeks because I can't release it if it is not acceptable. My RCI search is not as restriced and has made a match, but I released it because I wanted a different week. With RCI you can not put in as many different week searches as SFX, but the good thing is it can be released if that week does not work in your calendar. I am hoping that SFX will be able to make a match because I want to experience an exchange with that company and not lose my 2 deposited weeks. I know that it is a holiday time and also a high demand time, but I also put in a prime time to exchange.

I imagine that our exchange into Scottsdale AZ in mid-March and our exchange into the Manhattan Club for next July are the 2 toughest exchanges. We did both through SFX. The Scottsdale exchange we did a few years ago and we have a confirmed exchange for July 2008 at the Manhattan Club. We have had some other tough ones but I am betting that these were the toughest.

I agree with Glitter. If you will accept a one bdrm, you should be alright. Two bdrms are a little harder to get on the Islands.

BTW, II seems to have a decent supply of Hawaii. I grabbed a 2 bdrm Westin from a bulk banking, (not during flexchange) and exchanged into Marriott Kauai (using another Marriott) in just two weeks. Also, I do see a decent number of locations when I'm searching. Seems something shows up every day.

Some of the smaller exchange companies also have a decent amount.....I think you'll be fine with SFX. Good Luck!!!

What exchange company did they use? SFX would be a good choice for this exchange.

                              Nantucket.

My favorite resort has a very low VEP and almost no deposits because the resort management makes it an ordeal (and charges extra) to deposit with RCI.

This has been a source of frustration for me for my whole eleven years of timesharing.
