  • Okay - I need tons of help exchanging for a Disney resort.

I was posting on another site & was referred here, but is this the right bulletin board?

I am using my Uncles timeshare (Ft. Lauderdale March 21-30 week) through II to get a Disney resort for a week this fall. My dates are flexible and he gave up the week already to help secure our chances. I made an exchange request over the phone for several weeks between Sept & Nov and even said I'd take a 1-bedroom even though we have trading power to get a 2 bedroom. For us - we really need to book soon, or can't go at all, so I was willing to give up the extra room.

BUT - it's been going on a month with no word yet. I keep seeing and hearing that others are getting Disney places near the same time we need. What am I doing wrong!?! I am not overly familiar with this process. So any help or tips would be GREATLY appreciated. My family NEEDS this vacation!!

Have you checked to see if the week your uncle owns can pull Disney resorts? Are you talking specifically about Disney brand resorts, or just something near Disney? I doubt that the regional block would affect your exchange.

Our favorite resort outside of Disney is Marriott's Cypress Harbour. It has everything and is spread out and on beautiful grounds. But if you have your heart set on Disney, you shouldn't give up yet. I am sure you will get something, but October is a tough time to get, with the Food and Wine Festival during October, so it will very likely be a September week that will pop up.

    Good luck to you.

I would guess it may be a quality issue with the resort you are using to exchange. If you can see other DVC resorts coming up (I see resorts daily) then you should be ok. If you never see DVC, I would try for something else. I agree that the Marriotts are the next best option.

        moopdog... welcome to TS4M's

Disney can be difficult, but certainly not impossible to get. Sept, is one of the slower months for Disney, so that is probably your best shot. Disney claims their value seasons are....8/3-10/1, 11/30-12/18, 1/1-2/13. Those dates would be the slowest times for Disney, and the easiest time frames for you to get.

What resort are you using for your request? And, have you checked the II site to make sure that your request is accurate?

I will also agree with the others that if you can not get a Disney, Marriott would be your best bet.

        Good luck!!!

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

          Hmmm

Thanks for the help so far! I see all the Marriot's showing up, and one or two really catch my eye. But I really did want to be at a Disney resort if possible. We've been before and really want to stick with it and get the dining plan too.

Can someone walk me through checking the site - maybe I'm not searching the right way. I go to Exchange and then put in the dates and put the resort codes in (bcv, dwb, dss, dvo and dwl) - it's pretty much that simple right?

          UGG.

Oh Yea - is it possible to book a Marriott now and then still be requesting a DVC for exchange on the same unit? If so, can I simply switch from the Marriott to the DVC if it became available? This is probably too good to be possible right?

No, you would not be able to do that using the same unit. You could do it using a different week, though. You could grab the Marriott but keep an on-going search for DVC using a different week. If the DVC then came through, you could cancel the other week and forfeit that exchange fee.

As already mentioned, if you can see any of the DVC's, then it would not be a quality issue. Are you doing any searches yourself or are you just relying on the ongoing search? You have all of the codes correct, except for one, but I think that was just a typo (BCV, DBW, DVO,DSS,DWL).

As for September, there is always lots of availability at a lot of non-Disney places, and if it was me and I had my heart set on-site Disney, I would let the search go awhile longer. I would also keep an eye on the Marriots and if I saw their availability start to drop, then I would seriously consider letting the DVC dream go and book a Marriott.

I would also not rely only on the ongoing search which for some reason sometimes misses things. I have had one or two occasions where I had the ongoing search going and it didn't pull it, but when I did a manual search, I was able to pull and book what I wanted.

Good Luck. I personally think that Sept would be one of the easier times to get a DVC unit including a 2 bedroom unit, but also things sometimes change and I could be wrong.

Thanks SOS and just wanted to mention you're from my neck of the woods. Ever hear of Wyalusing or Laceyville? That's me. If not - I'm near Tunkhannock. Nice to see a familiar town!

                  Disney

All Searches online should be conducted between 6am and 9am with II Glitches with trade power are still common especially Monday. Good Luck Buff/Scott

                    Hi Buff

Just picked up on this thread while having a browse Which timezone do you mean for the II search?

                    Thanks

I'm not sure if the original poster is still here, but many resorts simply do not have the quality rating needed to see the DVC.

For the past few days, there have been several DVC units just sitting online in II. Even with a low trade power week, you should be able to see some DVC studios, so if your week can't see any DVCs right now, you almost certainly don't have high enough quality.
