  • ? about weather in January for exchange purposes

I have a deposit in SFX looking for the Florida keys for January 2009.
I am giving this to my daughter, SIL and grandchildren for a vacation. My SIL has 2 bread routes and the first availability for a vacation for him is the week of January 17th 2009; so he took it. He really doesn't want to get a passport so he wanted the Florida Keys. (somewhere warm)

I believe just due to the specific timeframe, the chances for a trade may be slim.

Now, for my question...is the weather and water temp that much different from Ft. Lauderdale?

I would like to expand my search capabilities and I thought that may be a good choice.

    Any thoughts?

The Keys, especially the lower Keys, will be nice and warm in January.

Upper Keys are a good bet too. Then you start taking a chance the farther north you get. It will PROBABLY be nice but it's not a guarantee. Not anymore. Every year it seems we get more cool to out right cold days starting in December and going thru February. Doesn't normally last more than a few days though. Normally.

I am sorry to not be too specific or too hopeful. The weather is a'changing.

Average daytime highs are similar between Miami or Ft. Myers, and Key West. Without looking, because I have sooooo many times in sooooo many other threads, around 75.

The difference is that it stays warmer overnight in the tropical zone of Key West, as opposed to the subtropical zone next above. Overnight lows are around 65 in Key West, as opposed to 55.

We just spent Week 1 at Ft. Myers Neach, with highs around 80 and mild overnight lows, so averages can be misleading. It just depends on what weather pattern is prevailing, where the blow is coming from.

IMO, it is still too cool for comfortable beaching.

Now, a reality check, you are not likely to get anything in the Keys in January, so, as my brother would say, this is likely a mute point.

That's what I figured...so, either they will need to pick somewhere else or have to do it the old fashioned way and get a hotel and pay a lot of money! Maybe they will decide to get passports!
