  • RCI Weeks Exchange - Assignment of Your Rights

Hi - I'm a new TS owner at Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay and would appreciate your comments on the Weeks program at RCI - specifically what rights we give to RCI when Depositing. I pulled the following from the RCI website:
https://www.rci.com/CDA/Common/Docum...GuideWeeks.pdf NOTE: This is a big download of 8.9MB
DISCLOSURE GUIDE TO THE RCI WEEKS EXCHANGE PROGRAM for 2007-2008
23.0. ASSIGNMENT OF RIGHTS. By Depositing
Vacation Ownership with RCI, each Member
relinquishes all rights to use that Vacation Ownership
and agrees that such Deposited Vacation Ownership
may be used by RCI to satisfy Exchange Requests, for
inspection visits, promotions, rental, sale, marketing and
for other purposes at RCI’s discretion, including use in
    other exchange or accommodation programs.

It appears to me that we are giving RCI the power to rent out our Deposit and otherwise use our Deposit in pretty much any way they seem fit. Maybe I'm missing something, but paying RCI up front for an Exchange and in the very same process giving them the Rights above just doesn't seem like a reasonable deal for TS Owners to me.

Week for week exchange is a dinosaur

You are new. This occurred about 5 years ago. Why anyone still gives RCI (or II as they have a very similar clause) their week to trade prior to knowing they have a week they want back is beyond me.

Buy to use. Rent yours and rent what you want if you wish to "exchange" - don't play the one sided week for week exchange game. You will lose if you do.

Thank you for the info. Yes I am very new, and only found out about this forum after having purchased in Mazatlan at the Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay. Made some mistakes so far but now I'm playing catch-up on how to best utilize our TS.

Thank goodness we purchased where we love to vacation, so in that respect we did "buy to use". PB Emarald Bay is also a lovely site so worst case we overpaid for a location we're quite content to stay.

As for your suggestion to rent on both ends, any assistance you can provide on how this is best accomplished would be appreciated. If you could point me to best spots or methods to aquire info on a safe and sane way of doing this, it would be much appreciated!

There are Independent exchange companies that are still viable to exchange a week when you would like to go somewhere different.

        to TS4Ms.
