Please correct me if I'm wrong but it seems that since II has the big name clubs (Marriott, Disney, etc.) that release units after their members have a shot at them, it is easier to get great places a few months out than with RCI. Conversely, with RCI weeks full of banked owner weeks, it is easier to plan vacations 10 months to a year out while availability of good locations dries up a few months out.
Example: at RCI with a strong trader, I can see up to 15 different resorts available in Hawaii from Oct. 08 to April 19. Searching on the II web site with Diamond points, I see nothing.
There is a question to this....
Is this "standard " with II? Or (terrible thought ) are Diamond points being blocked from seeing some availability? Those who have previously been affiliated with RCI and are now II, have you had to change the way you plan vacations? Do you find yourself using the request option more?
