  • I just LOVE little resorts

Called Surfrider today and spoke with the front desk person. Apparently we are getting there after they close tomorrow.

No problem! This is where your key will be, we have bikes and beach chairs and umbrellas for your use. This is where the Walmart superstore is, you'll want to stop before you come over to Sanibel but don't worry there are 2 nice smaller markets on the island. I'll put another beach towel in the room for your son. There is a guest board and we put everybody's name and where they are from to help start conversation. The rooms are small but you will love it here.

Oh we are closed Sunday too. Just come on down to the desk Monday to register and we'll get to meet.

Folks, you do not get that at the megas. Probably why 3 of the 4 I own at are 50 units or less and why my trades are usually into just little places with great locations.

I got one resort that has only 6 units and I love it there, Absolutely nothing to do there either. Did I mention the wrap around deck that is on a cliff over looking the Smoky mountains and Chattanooga river and golf coarse? I can just sit there and smoke Cigars all day.

I have to agree, a smaller resorts has a certain appeal.

It is why we like Bluebeard's Beach Club...72 units but you just don't get that crowded resort feeling.

I love my Glacier Wilderness Resort in Montana - only 11 one- and two-bedroom log cabins, everyone says "hi" to everyone else, and the front office is staffed by a great couple who really understand the meaning of hospitality.

I feel the same with my Galway Bay Cottages in Ireland. There are only 10 houses...some are individual (mine) and some are duplex. Not a darn thing to do at the "resort" but it is so peaceful and no bother from anyone.

I don't think that I've ever stayed at a small resort. I think I would like it tho, especially if it were on a beach.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I'm with you...I don't like large resorts either. I like to go to a pool and be able to swim. All but one of mine is small. But even that one, for some reason, does not feel that big <200 units.
Oh, and I have one that is a deluxe JR suite that is hotel based, but I really don't consider that one a "timeshare". Probably because it's RTU and is a hotel chain and I don't have "timeshare" expectations.

Two of my favorites have 40 units or less.

You are SO right, Lawren. BK (Before Kids), that's the only way I traveled. Then two active boys dictated more "amenities," but they are getting older and I am going to be getting away from that soon, and am looking forward to it.

I'm with you, Lawren. We much prefer smaller resorts to the mega ones.

surfrider beach club is on sanibel island. we own there and go every year. it's a family type place, but not crawling with kids. no activities, but free equipment and it's right on the beach. only drawbacks: $6 bridge and you need to drive because it's a lonnnng way to the Ft Myers airport. -ken

Can you say Wave Crest in Del Mar!!!!!! Smaller is better in some cases.

lawren2: Would you tell us how you like Surfrider? We bought at Sanibel Beach Club, next door, and will use the unit for the first time this October.

                              Thanks.
