We love Bay & Beach Club in Indian Shores for the same reason. Right on the beach, uncrowded and friendly guests (our manager could use some improvements). It's wonderful.
lawren2: Thanks for the reply. Many of the timeshares all the way from West Gulf Drive to past the Lighthouse get very favorable comments from owners and guests.

Please excuse me, I'm a Dick. Not a moron just a Dick
A swimming pool, a hot tub, and a couple of BBQ grills seem to work out just about right.
It seems like the mega resorts never can have enough amenities to keep some from being crowded, frenetic, non-relaxing.
The small, intimate resorts give you more of a feeling of being in a private condo, your place, rather than a vacation feedlot.

Amen. Even in a fast paced and go go area like Orlando we prefer a smaller, upscale and well maintained resort over the mega's. There may not be as many things on site but the relaxed pace, lack of crowds, no need to drive to get to resort features and, sometimes, far better location (close to the area's attractions rather than a 30 minute+ drive) beats a so-so water park or half baked on site restaurants hands down. I'd rather walk 1/3 mile to Dunkin Donuts than suffer through an overpriced and poor tasting cup of coffee at a mega resort. Or go to Wet N' Wild to enjoy a real water park rather than fight over 10 so-so "rides" at a mini water park on site. Some may like being 10+ miles out the highway in the middle of nowhere on a monster sized resort but it isn't for us.
From reading the previous posts it seems that the Scottsdale Camelback Resort in AZ can fit the bill. It has 111 units but it definately has that small comfortable feel. Its an older resort( not quite upscale) but when your sitting around the pool and the bartender/waiter is walking around asking if your all set or if you need anything it does give you that personal touch.

I have to agree with this one. We spent a week at Camelback the end of March (direct exchange with eal) This was our second stay at this resort and have already booked 2 weeks back to back for Nov 2009.
I love little resorts too. Love our Pacific Grove Plaza in Pacific Grove-Monterey, ca., area that has only 16 units and is two blocks from the beach and we can walk to shops, cafes, the library, post office, etc.
