  • Highest Exchange Value?

The wife and I got talked into a TS deal at the GrandView Las Vegas this last week and since we're told we have 7 days to back out...we're researching.

Looks like we probably want to back out since we bought from the developer...but I'm pretty sure we still want to own a timeshare because of the long term value.

Since most likely we'll use the TS for exchanging...what timeshares have the highest value when it comes to exchanging? Points values sound better than weeks only which I can understand...but WHERE should one buy to have a good chance at exchanging?

    thanks in advance...

Definately RESCIND and do that right away. Follow the terms in your contract to the letter. Send the recession certified return receipt.

Talk to us about where you would like to go. What type of vacations do you use. Short stays of 3 or 4 days? A week? Tell us when you would like or need to travel. Can you go at the last minute? Can you plan 2 years in advance?

There are many different flavors of timeshares, exchange companies, mini-systems and point systems. If you do your homework up front by reading and asking questions you will find the timeshare vehicle that will serve your purposes best.

    Welcome to TS4Ms.

      Exchange opportunities

As a recent buyer of a timeshare in Park City, UT, I am quickly becoming concerned about the opportunities for exchange.
Although I like the timeshare we bought -- Park City is beautiful and the resort is fantastic, with plenty of activities, a great pool and fantastic rooms -- we want the opportunity to trade into popular resorts in Florida, California and Hawaii.
But the more I investigate, the more I'm learning that it is almost impossible to trade into specific resorts. Either they are never available, or the resorts unwilling to give them up for exchange when they can instead try to make twice the money for them.
Despite planning nine months to a year in advance of trips, i still wonder if resorts ever become available.
Can someone with experience in landing exchanges to high priority resorts change my mind?

Rescind now, ask questions later!! Lawren is right, though, give us an idea of where/when you'd like to travel, family needs, etc.

Where and what week do you own in Park City? A prime ski week should do well, the rest of the year mightn't trade as well as you'd hope. And, yes, prime resorts over holiday weeks are hard to find regardless of what you own, but not always impossible. And there are other ways, such as direct exchanging, if you own a high demand week.

Sent in the "Recission" (sp?) yesterday. Yesterday was day 5 so all should be good...sent certified w/return receipt. Hopefully tragedy was averted!

How do we travel now or how do we want to travel?? I want for us to take vacations of at least 1 week at least twice a year. right now, we seem to only take long weekends but that just isn't enough to really get "recharged" so to speak.

Hard to say where we like to travel because there isn't much that I'm not willing to go to. Most of our travel has been going to Mexico...whether that be a cruise or flying down there. We are going to Mexico again next March/April. I want to do more international travel further away, but there is plenty right here in the states that I haven't seen...so not sure if this banter is going to help much.

Last minute would be difficult due to our work....there is a minor possibility of being able to do it...but would be unlikely. We can definitely plan 2 years out...but it sounded like 13months early was about as early as you could go...and that is only using your paid for week, yes? Not the "bonus" weeks you get which I heard you can only try to exchange 45 days ahead of time.

          Thanks for your help.

To trade with RCI using points:

You can trade for a unit at a resort that is considered a weeks resort (no points owners at the resort) with a check-in date up to two years from the day you are looking.

You can trade for a unit at a resort that is considered a points resort with a check-in date up to 10 months from the day you are looking. You have the flexibility of looking for stays from 1 day to multiple weeks at a time. If 10 months is enough time to plan this should also work for you but if it's a high demand location you should be looking at exactly 10 months to the day. They can go quickly.

To trade with RCI using a weeks deposit:

You can trade for units with a check-ins up to two years from the day you are looking. You can deposit the week you are using to trade as soon as your resort will let you. I can deposit one of my resorts two years before check-in. However, if I deposit my week two years ahead, I can only exchange for something as early as 12 months before my unit's check-in date. For example, if I deposit an October, 2010 week, I can exchange it for units that have a check-in date from October, 2009 until October, 2012.

Southern California coastal summer weeks trade great. Cape Cod to Hilton Head in the summer, as well. There are lots of other places, too. When I am contacted by someone who seems serious about buying one of my RCI traders, I offer to let them log on to my RCI account to try out some trade tests. If you have some trade test results you can always ask here for someone to try the same searches to compare how your prospective purchase does against other types of deposits.
