Does anyone own a Westgate timeshare?

I was hoping to communicate with a Westgate owner that has experience in exchanging.

    Anyone out there?

          Westgate sucks.

If you can get $100 for it, good for you.

Wastegate is one of the worst two or three timeshare operations in existence. They ride roughshod over owners, never stop the hard sell, run overpriced management with zero owner input and generally should be avoided at all costs. Not to even mention the questionable ethics and worse that the head honcho and his minions engage in. The resorts are so-so at best and most are poorly maintained despite high annual fees.

As for trading for Disney with it forget it as they have a block on resorts within 100 miles.

I'm amazed (maybe extremely naive) about all the negativity toward Westgate. My home Westgate resort in Park City is absolutely fantastic. It's a relatively new hotel, with two new buildings being built. The indoor/outdoor pool is perfect temperature for winter or summer. A new ski company recently took over management of the mountain, boasting plenty of new ski runs at the very popular Canyons trails and the resort sits right at the bottom of the lifts. The summer and fall are also great. Fantastic golf courses everywhere, tours to the Olympic bobsled/luge run and Olympic ski jump ramps. Lots of hiking (climbing if you're into to that thing) and beautiful colors in the fall.
Tell me about the problems you're having at your Westgate resort. Are you never able to exchange? Tell be some of the horror stories about exchanging.

Just look at those links. There is no limit to the outrageous actions of the cesspool known as Wastegate. Apparently Wastegate hasn't screwed over the Park City owners (yet) but just hang in there - your time will come. With Wastegate its a guarantee.

My parents traded their Westgate Smoky Mountain studio (Memorial week) for a DVC studio at Saratoga Springs during Christmas week last year.

The actual unit at Westgate Smoky Mountains that we stayed in last year with my parents was quite nice, but Westgate's sales force are terrible (extremely pushy) so we avoid them at all cost.

There are quite a few horror stories about people not being able to sell their Westgate timeshares because of Westgate's antics when you go to sell (if you do a search on tugbbs you can find some doozies). Hopefully by the time my parents have passed away and I have to figure out what to do with their Westgate timeshare King David will be dead and gone and maybe some other nicer operation will have taken it over (I hope).

I'm happy for you. Sometimes being clueless is bliss.

Search and read for yourself, as those of us who have been reporting the truth for years are a little tired of doing it, and those who have had to read it are tired of reading it.

Wastegate being sleazy and slimy is not new news. Actually, there is sleazey and slimy, and then there is Wastegate sleazey and slimy.

FWIW, they closed their call center here in Springfield, MO, with absolutely no notice. Employees arrived, security took them in to get their stuff, and escorted them back out. That is the warm and fuzzy Wastegate we all know and love.

Heard it was the same type of "lock out" of previously "valued employees" in Vegas too as sales basically closed. Hmm, more trouble for the Planet Hollywood Tower of Terror if they can't sell? (or finish it?) Interesting times and bad things couldn't happen to a more deserving group than Wastegate.

Interesting!!! I just went to a presentation to Planet Hollywood by Westgate. The units are georgeous!!!! Probably the best timeshare property I have ever seen - much better than Sheraton, Marriott, Hilton or Disney.

I can see the value, however, they are asking for too much. A two bedroom is 55K, and a 4 bedroom Presidential Unit New Year week is 120K. The negotiation of a one bedroom went down from 39 to 35K. I told the sales I was looking for a Toyota Corolla but they were selling a Royce Rolls. I would love to own a unit if the price is like 20K. He then tried to sell me a one bedroom every other year for 24K. The final offer was 13K for 5 days (any day of the week). One week in PH can be exchanged for two weeks in any Westgate properties. The 5 day "week" can be exchanged for a full week internally or via II - kind of like Hilton 4 night week in RCI.

I didn't buy eventually, and was happy with two buffet tickets and two magic show tickets - a total value of $200.

The first building was almost completed and will be grand opened 2009. It looks like they can meet the target. There is no sign of the second building, even no foundation work. The occupancy of the second building is 2010, which I would doubt it.

Unless every bit of that is in writing - and even if it is Wastegate has a LONG history of changing it anyway later - don't plan on actually getting those features/benefits/use rights. The Wastegate policy is promise the world and deliver a cesspool at twice the annual fee.

As for the units they usually look nice in the models and maybe when they are new but shortly after they are run down and they are pushing the "next new thing". Wastegate is all about sales, nothing but sales and couldn't care less about owners or actually running a resort at any level of quality. They want money and total control. Period. End of story. I'm still laughing about one of the more vocal posters here and in TUG who has bought into the line of the PH Tower of Terror. Anyone who thinks it is worth the type of money they are asking to buy or that it will be as valuable to use or rent as they claim (the ULTIMATE in timeshare sales lies - especially if mouthed by Wastegate Weasels) is, IMO, kidding themselves. It is overpriced, overvalued and will be a bust in the long run. In addition to the guaranteed shafting Wastegate will, as standard procedure, deliver this is a project tied to one of the most famous failures (Aladan) in LV history. The loser Planet Hollywood name (Motto: Hey, we could of been Hard Rock but unfortunately we aren't and never will be) does nothing to increase the odds of success. This has loser written on it from top to bottom and the best advice is to avoid any ownership with a 100 foot pole. Do take them for all the freebies possible however as they deserve at least that.
